The Ygnacio Valley Road connects this compact neighborhood to both local shopping centers and Interstate 680, yet despite the busy road the area retains a quiet atmosphere that contributes to its elevated housing prices.

Hiking and cycling along ridges and canals
Woodlands may not be immersed in a forest as its name may suggest, but it is surrounded by opportunities for outdoor exploration. The Lime Ridge Open Space preserves 1,226 acres of undeveloped ridgeline for hiking, dog-walking and cycling, and its warren of trails stretches for 25 miles. Tucked into the heart of Woodlands is the Valle Verde Neighborhood Park, a small green space with tree-shaded picnic tables and open space for frisbee or other field sports. The Woodlands Cabana Club with its three pools is open from May through October. While memberships are open to the community, fees are involved, though people can score discounts for taking part in a service day. The club also offers swimming classes and can host birthday parties or barbecues. The Contra Costa Canal, which runs 47 miles from Antioch to Walnut Creek, forms Woodlands’ northern border and allows for hikers and cyclists to explore much of Contra Costa County.
