Peaceful retreats on the Charles River
When driving down the community’s winding streets that run alongside the Charles River, charming Cape Cods and sprawling modern homes are often covered by dense and leafy trees, creating a quaint, tucked-away setting. Architectural styles run the gamut from cottages and ranch styles to Colonial Revivals and split-levels. While some properties may date to the 1950s, larger houses over 3,000 square feet with open floor plans can be built as recently as in the past two decades. Smaller homes around 2,000 square feet usually list for around $1 million, with several estate properties over 4,000 square feet fetching over $2 million. Lot sizes are often around a quarter-acre, and many have backyard decks, direct water access or views of the Charles River. “The market in Angleside has very low inventory right now,” says Natalie Marsh, a Boston native Realtor at Compass with over 15 years of experience. “When something comes on the market, especially if the price is right, it flies.”Fox Park--a hidden pocket park right in Angleside
Angleside has easy access to the Charles River and lots of green space where residents can enjoy outdoor activities. Fox Park is the community’s hidden secret. This small park, located on the Charles River, isn’t often frequented by those outside of the neighborhood; it has a 1-mile-long hike trail and space for walking, running, or picnicking. Newton Boathouse, a wood and stone building that peeks through the surrounding forest and offers a 6-mile stretch of flatwater, has kayak and canoe equipment rentals, or residents can opt to store their boats here in a private, secure setting. Roberts, the community’s next-door neighbor, is home to Bobby Connors Playground, which has many play structures, a splash pad and a basketball court. Numerous golf clubs and other parks surround the area, such as The Cove, a public space in Newtown with a baseball field and pickleball courts, making it easy to escape into the peaceful outdoors.Waltham Public Schools
Young students here can attend William F. Stanley Elementary School and John W. McDevitt Middle School, both of which earn a B-minus rating from Niche. For secondary education, Waltham High School has a B Niche grade and a distinguished theater program connected to the Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston. The professional theater provides financial support as well as educational art classes in the summer to local high school scholars. Students interested in STEM can apply and enroll in the school’s Project Lead the Way programs in biomedical science or engineering. The private college Brandeis University directly borders the community on the north side and offers over 40 bachelor’s degree programs for undergraduate students.Events and festivals in Waltham
The Annual Waltham Riverfest takes place at Moody Street Bridge with live music, children’s activities and an aerial show. Brandeis University also organizes the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts, which celebrates the local artistic community with art performances, exhibits and panels.Navigating into Boston
Home to the Brandeis/Roberts commuter rail station and easy access to Interstate 95, Angleside is an ideal spot for commuters. Boston, Cambridge and the Boston Logan International Airport are about 15 miles west via Interstate 90. However, rush hour traffic can cause extensive delays and prolong the commute time to over an hour. Many people opt for the commuter rail and take the Fitchburg Line, which can get to Boston in 5 stops. Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center (Waltham) is 4 miles north, and the neighborhood is car-dependent.Shops and restaurants along Moody Street
The historic Moody Street sits just across the Charles River and is a favored spot to shop, dine, and enjoy river views. Popular restaurants here include In a Pickle, a modern eatery offering brunch classics and Gustazo Cuban Kitchen & Bar. Aside from The Prime Deli & Café, Angleside residents will need to go to nearby neighborhood areas for groceries, food and shopping. Market Basket and Hannaford are both about 2 miles north, with big-box stores such as Marshalls and HomeGoods right across the street from the grocery stores.
