Private community in the mountains
Surrounded by aspen trees and overlooking the Indian Peaks, Bar-K Ranch is a secluded neighborhood in the Rocky Mountains west of Boulder. “Most people in the Bar-K have come up here to escape the fray of the city but still have a community,” says Broker Erika Archer with Archer Mountain Properties, who has lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years. “There’s room to breathe up here.” In addition to its friendly neighbors and panoramic views, the community has access to plenty of outdoor recreation.

The risks of mountain living
With Bar-K Ranch’s forested landscape and dry climate, the neighborhood may be at risk of potential wildfires. “Homes in the ranch tend to be wood construction, but over time people have begun to move toward more resilient features, such as rock walls, to discourage wildfires,” Archer says.
