Northwest Warren has newer homes and more amenities than other Warren neighborhoods

Northwest Warren is a vast community packed with amenities. Despite the presence of General Motors Technical Center, the Detroit Army Arsenal and the Warren Community Center, the neighborhood retains a suburban feel. "The north is known to be a little more expensive, spacious and quieter all together," says Edyta Raganiewicz, Realtor with Century 21 Curran & Oberski. "More relaxed, if you will." Much like Northeast Warren, Northwest Warren saw increased development in the early 2000s and 2010s and is now home to dozens of shops, restaurants, recreation options and entertainment venues. Compared to Southwest Warren, where development slowed, Northwest Warren homes are slightly newer and larger, located on quiet residential cul-de-sacs and winding roads.

Northwest Warren has shopping, dining and entertainment in every direction

In Northwest Warren, there's no lack of dining, shopping and entertainment. Van Dyke Road, which runs along the east side of the neighborhood, is the most significant commercial sector in the city. The 6 miles stretching through Warren and Center Line is home to over 75 businesses, ranging from beauty shops and auto repair services to markets and pharmacies. There are dozens of shopping options, including a Walmart sitting at the intersection of 12 Mile and Van Dyke. Restaurants range from Middle Eastern fare at Middle Eats to Buddy's Pizza, the birthplace of Detroit-style pizza. Mound Road is also bustling with strip malls like Heritage Village, which has a Meijer and an Aldi. Dequindre Road also has various strip malls, including Universal Shopping Center, which has a Kroger, Target and more. From Dequindre over to Van Dyke, and 14 Mile down Interstate 696, entertainment options range from movie theaters to escape rooms. Hall of Fame Billiards is a 35-table pool hall with a full bar.

Navigating in a breeze using SMART buses, interstates and thoroughfares

East 14 Mile Road, Dequindre Road, Van Dyke and Interstate 696 frame Northwest Warren and provide ample transportation routes and an industrial sector. 14 Mile Road allows residents to drive east and west without getting on the freeway. I-696 also runs east and west and intersects Interstates 75 and 94 just outside Warren's city limits. Detroit Metro Airport is about 30 miles southwest and has international and domestic flights. SMART bus routes 740 and 494 have stops throughout the neighborhood, and well-kept sidewalks make the neighborhood walkable. While residents commute 10 miles to Detroit for work, there are options closer to home. Ascension Macomb-Oakland, Madison Heights, one of the area's largest health systems and medical employers, is on Dequindre Road. There are also various manufacturing careers. "The car industry, they employ a ton of people," Raganiewicz says. "During rush hour, you see people walking to and from work. There is one on 12 Mile where there's a lot of foot traffic." General Motors Technical Center, a 710-acre campus, employs over 20,000 people and includes dozens of corporate offices, manufacturing buildings, training centers, and more. Just south of the campus, the US Army Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command headquarters employs over 8,400 civilians and 245 military personnel.

Halmich Park and the Warren Community Center

Residents have access to Warren's largest and most used park and the community center. Halmich Park is 74 acres and features two picnic shelters, 10 soccer fields, a massive playscape and more. It's also home to The Warren City Fair, a three-day summer event with carnival rides, games, live music and entertainment. For more recreation and year-round events, the Warren Community Center, Warren Civic Theatre and Arthur J Miller Public Library are all in the same building. The Warren Community Center's indoor recreation options include a basketball court, swimming pool and gymnasium. It also hosts the annual Harvest Treat.
