Darren Warren, one of the area's earliest settlers, lent his name to Warrensville Heights, which became an independent city in 1960. Migration into the area turned the city from an agricultural hub to a residential suburb. While the large lots were broken up to meet housing demands, there is significantly more space than those in neighboring communities. And homebuyers in Warrensville Heights find ways to utilize them, whether to decorate their front lawns or expand residences for those with children. According to Carol Joiner, Realtor with Keller Williams Greater Metropolitan, homebuyers move to Warrensville Heights when they’re ready to settle down and find their forever homes.

On Hillcroft Drive, the street is lined with broad ranch-style homes that feature asymmetrical facades, large picture windows and interiors with open floor plans. A few blocks down on Frontenac Drive, you'll spot Cape Cod homes with steeply pitched roofs, centralized chimneys and low ceilings. You'll have options whenever you decide to make Warrensville Heights home. "It's relatively affordable. Generally, homes are about $150,000 to $160,000, and some distressed properties are in the $60,000 range," Joiner says. The addition of lower taxes compared to surrounding cities means you can get your forever home for less in Warrensville Heights. There are also rental options on the city's west side for those looking for alternatives before purchasing a home.

"It is convenient to the highway and shopping," Joiner says. In fact, you can take Interstate 271 to Harvard Park, the nearest commercial hub on Richmond Road. Find exciting skincare at Ulta Beauty or a new pair of shoes at DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse. Further satisfy your passion for fashion by continuing to the nearby Beachwood Place Mall on Cedar Road, located about 7 miles from the city's core. You can stop by stores like H&M, Forever 21 and even more high-end luxury stores, including Louis Vuitton and Dior.

Three schools serve students in the city and are a huge draw for families with children. "People are upgrading from Cleveland to the better school system in Warrensville Heights," Joiner says. The Warrensville Heights City School District, starts at Warrensville Heights Elementary School from pre-k through fifth grade, features smaller class sizes than the neighboring city. Children graduate to Warrensville Heights Middle School and then Warrensville Heights High School, home of the Tigers, to conclude their primary education, which boasts a graduation rate of 87%, Niche says. For higher education, Cuyahoga Community College is located nearby and is notably one of Northeast Ohio's largest colleges. You can continue to pursue knowledge while joining other community members looking to do the same at the Warrensville Heights Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library on Northfield Road. The children's colorfully decorated area draws the city's youngest residents into a welcoming space for learning. While here, the musically inclined can even record a track at the audio recording studio, perfect for improving cognitive and non-cognitive skills. Or, for a change of pace after school, children can spend recreational time at the Warrensville Heights Family YMCA, within walking distance from the library.

Join the community of longtime residents and discover why Warrensville Heights was affectionally nicknamed the "Friendly City."
