Lots to do and see
Living in Washington means there’s always something going on. Head down to the Tidal Basin in early spring for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The event commemorates the 1912 gift of Japanese Cherry trees to the U.S. from the mayor of Tokyo. There isn’t a better place to be on Independence Day than Washington, D.C. Walk or Uber (don’t drive, there’s no parking) the 5 miles down to the U.S. Capitol and National Mall to enjoy a day of parades, concerts and fireworks.
Getting around the town
Mayfair is considered somewhat walkable. While some tasks and errands can be done on foot, a vehicle is recommended. When the community was established, planners intentionally took advantage of the most direct transportation routes to the downtown area, making morning commutes a bit easier. The city center is 5 miles away via Benning Road. Reagan National Airport is 8.5 miles via Interstate 295. Metro services are available in the neighborhood.
One more thing
Pepco utility company is a primary electric provider and employer with headquarters in the neighborhood. Although the plant occupies one-third of Mayfair, its facilities are concealed behind trees and shrubbery.
