Weatherly maintains a small-town feel in Northeastern Pennsylvania
Weatherly is a small borough in Northeastern Pennsylvania offering quiet residential streets, community schools and neighborhood parks where locals enjoy a slower pace of life. “Weatherly is one of the few places left that’s still actually a community where people take pride in the town and the schools,” says Luke Medico, who grew up in Weatherly and is now the principal broker of the Luke Medico Group with Real of Pennsylvania. “It’s just a cool place to grow up, where you’re removed from the hustle and bustle of normal life.”
The borough is home to fewer than 3,000 people and covers just 3 square miles. “It’s an extremely small community. There’s not even a stoplight,” Medico says. “It will always be like that.” While Weatherly only has a handful of local establishments, it’s within reach of the Poconos Mountains region and bigger cities where residents can access shopping, dining and entertainment. “It’s about a 25-minute drive from anything you need, which is a negative for some people, but you’re here in a quiet space,” Medico says.
Third Street, with it's sidewalk, is a popular walking route for many Weatherly residents.
The Church Hill Strip Mall has a covered hallway keeping Hazleton shoppers warm in the colder months.

Quiet streets feature traditional single-family homes
Weatherly features a variety of housing styles and options. But while architectural styles vary, Cape Cod, Colonial Revival and ranch-style homes are the norm here. “The center is a bit more city-like where the houses are closer together, and the outskirts are more spread out,” Medico says. Most properties were built from the late 19th through the mid-20th century, although there is some newer construction built in the early 2000s. Properties rarely come on the market in Weatherly; six homes sold in 2024, with prices ranging from $190,000 to $420,000. The median sales price for single-family homes is around $220,000, and properties sell after an average of just over a month on the market.
Small, ranch homes provide an affordable option for many Weatherly homeowners.

Residents live in the Weatherly Area School District
The Weatherly Area School District earns an overall grade of B-minus from Niche. “The school district is a big draw. It has very small class sizes and an intimate setting where people get to know you and your family,” Medico says. Weatherly Area Elementary School and Weatherly Area Middle School are in the same building, and both schools receive a C-plus from Niche. Weatherly Area High School scores a B-minus and allows high schoolers to earn college credit through Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses. Nearby private school options include the A-rated MMI Preparatory School, a college preparatory day school for sixth through 12th grades.
Weatherly Area Senior High School has 155 students in grades 9-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1.
According to state test scores taken at Weatherly Elementary/Middle School, 17% of students are at least proficient in math and 57% in reading.

Outdoor recreation includes Eurana Park and nearby State Game Lands
Eurana Park is Weatherly’s biggest green space. It features a playground, basketball court, an 18-hole disc golf course and a fenced-in dog park. The park also has a lake that was once used for swimming and is now being converted into a pay-to-fish area where residents can catch trout. Summer is Eurana Park’s busiest season, as people can stop by the Eurana Park Concession Stand. “People will just go to the park for the concession stand. It’s a random gem where you can get cheesesteaks or French fries and random things like that,” Medico says. Eurana Park also hosts events like the Weatherly Festival, which is held each August and features live music, local vendors and a cornhole tournament.
The Weatherly Area Museum provides locals with information about the borough’s history, while the Weatherly Area Community Library offers educational and recreational programs for all ages. For hunters, Weatherly is within 10 miles of State Game Lands 141 and 149. The game lands allow hunting during established seasons, and SGL 141 has a public shooting range. “There are a lot of nature-type activities out here. Hunting, fishing, hiking and camping are all big things,” Medico says. Residents are also within 30 miles of several attractions in the Pocono Mountains region, including the Big Boulder Ski Area.
Eurana Park includes a snack bar that serves ice cream, hamburgers, and other treats.

Future recreational projects include park upgrades and new trails
Weatherly has several ongoing recreational projects. The borough plans to upgrade Eurana Park with new basketball and pickleball courts, a courtyard and improved accessibility features. Construction has not yet begun on the Eurana Park project, which is still in the bidding phase as of spring 2025.
Weatherly is also planning to increase its trail access. The borough is building a 5-mile-long rail trail from Weatherly to a section of the Delaware & Lehigh Trail in Lehigh Gorge State Park. The project has an estimated completion date of 2027. Weatherly is also conducting a feasibility study in 2025 to determine if they can build a connection to the Greater Hazelton Rails to Trails system.
Residents can dine at local restaurants and shop in nearby Hazleton
The borough has a handful of local businesses. Enzo’s Pizza & Italian Grill is a casual spot where options range from classics like pepperoni to unique combinations such as lasagna and chicken wing pizza. Buzzy Bee Cafe and Deli serves specialty sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and for dessert, residents can stop at Woods Ice Cream. Dollar General sells the essentials, and houses of worship like Weatherly Faith Church and Trinity Baptist Church serve the community. Residents typically head to Hazleton, less than 10 miles away, to run errands at bigger stores like Walmart, Lowe’s and Giant. “It’s maximum a 10 or 15-minute drive to bigger restaurants and shops,” Medico says. Hazleton is also home to the Laurel Mall, which has more than 50 retailers.
The Buzzy Bee Cafe is one of Weatherly’s favorite breakfast and lunch stops.
A favorite, warm-weather destination for many Weatherly residents is Wood’s Ice Cream.

Bi-annual Weatherly Hillclimb attracts drivers and spectators alike
Motorsport enthusiasts travel to the borough twice a year for the Weatherly Hillclimb. A hillclimb is a timed race in which drivers compete to see who can navigate an uphill course in the shortest amount of time, and the Weatherly Hillclimb has been a staple in the community since 1960. It’s hosted by the Weatherly Hillclimb Association and takes place each June and September on a one-mile course along, appropriately enough, Hill Street, with plenty of twists and turns. While spectators gather around to watch the race, local organizations like the Weatherly Centenary United Methodist Church set up food stands near the hill.
Major highways and local buses connect the borough to bigger cities
Weatherly is within 20 miles of major thoroughfares like Interstate 81, Interstate 80 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. “You can get onto I-81 and I-80 in 15 minutes, so it’s not bad,” Medico says. These highways offer direct routes to bigger cities like Allentown and Scranton, both about 45 miles from the borough. Weatherly is also around 90 miles from Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Residents can access local bus service courtesy of Hazleton Public Transit, which offers a bus route between Weatherly, Beaver Meadows and Hazleton. For flights, Weatherly is about 40 miles from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Lehigh International Airport. Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton, about 8 miles away, is the closest hospital and has a Level IV Trauma Center.
The Lehigh International Airport is a short drive from North Catasauqua.
The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport is conveniently located near Duryea in Avoca.
