New Hampshire countryside, family farms and nearby waterways
Located about 15 miles northwest of Concord, Webster is a rural town with rustic homes, locally owned farms and scenic views of the rolling New Hampshire forests. “People are very friendly and very helpful,” says Cathryn Clark-Dawe, the Webster Free Public Library director. She moved to the area for family reasons, but she says living in a quiet, rural area was a big benefit. Because of its proximity to Leonard State Wildlife Management Area and Mount Kearsarge State Forest Park, residents have access to dozens of outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing and fishing. “This area is good for birdwatching and swimming," she says. "I’ve really fallen in love with the red-bellied woodpeckers around here," Clark-Dawe says. Major recreational destinations include Walker Pond and Blackwater River, as well as the Merrimack River to the east. Though area shops are limited to farm stores, ice cream stands and the local Coffin Cellars Winery, folks can drive to nearby areas like Boscawen, Warner and Penacook for shopping and dining.

Hiking, fishing and biking in Webster
Webster lies southeast of the massive Mount Kearsarge State Forest Park, giving the area a quiet, outdoorsy atmosphere. Walking along the Blackwater Dam to take photos of the river is a popular outing, as are trips to Walker Pond for paddling around. It’s possible to see the occasional tourist at Cozy Pond Camping Resort, though most residents enjoy heading east past Boscawen to travel on the Northern Rail Trail. It lies west of the Merrimack River and stretches 58 miles from Penacook to Lebanon. The Merrimack River itself is one of the most endangered rivers in the United States. Its high levels of sewer overflow, mercury and road salt have made it harsh on the native wildlife, but local and government efforts are attempting to improve it. Canoers and kayakers can still launch their boats and paddle its waters for hours.

Shops and restaurants in nearby Boscawen and Warner
Nightlife is highly limited in town, where local farms like Webster Ridge or Milk Can Corner sell flowers, produce or a few fruits. “We don't have much of a town center; there are no businesses or coffee shops, but we host a church supper once a month in the summertime at the Congregational Church. A lot of people attend, and you don't have to be a member to have a nice dinner,” Clark-Dawe says. Out on Water Street is Richardson’s Farm. “We’re unique in that we manufacture our own ice cream base and make our own ice cream from it,” says Jim Richardson. “We’re still doing what we’ve been doing for the last 70 years.” His parents began the ice cream business on their farm in 1956. It has grown to include an orchard and a commercial kitchen that also sells pies and apple crisps . Getting groceries or dining out often requires a drive east into Boscawen or southwest to Warner. On the way is Smoke Shack BBQ, known for its brisket and takeaway ice-cream window. The nearest grocery store is Market Basket, next to HomeGoods on Hoit Road and Merchants Way. Folks can also head to Contoocook for more shopping.

Modern and rustic farmhouses and log cabins
Accompanying Webster's rural landscape and hilly terrain, common rustic designs include updated log cabins and modern farmhouses. With exposed wood beams, sloping roofs and barn garage doors, these residences give off a homespun feel. More common designs include simple ranch-style homes, large Colonial Revivals and classic New England Cape Cods. Possible flooding of Merrimack County rivers
Because it is part of the Merrimack Watershed, Webster is close to waterways like Blackwater River, Lake Winnepocket and Walker Pond. This gives residents ample opportunity to explore and play outside. That said, those waterways can overfill or flood after heavy rainfall.

Merrimack County Public Schools
Webster students study within the Merrimack Valley School District, which is graded an overall C-minus on Niche. For kindergarten through fifth grade, Webster Elementary School, also graded a C-minus, is located across the street from town hall. The school has a playground, ballfield and soccer field. Students will then move on to Merrimack Valley Middle School, rated a C, and Merrimack Valley High School, which is graded a C-minus. Both are located about 10 miles away off Route 3 in Penacook. High school students may enroll in courses with the New Hampshire Technical Institute early college program.
Webster Elementary School is located within the community and earns a C-minus from Niche.
Merrimack Valley Middle School in Concord serves grades 6-8.

Commutes to Concord and getting around town
Webster is about 30 minutes north of Concord, which drivers can reach by driving 15 miles south via Water Street. Webster is also about 12 miles from Warner and about 9 miles from Contoocook and Hopkinton. Concord Hospital is also 15 miles south and can be reached in about 30 minutes via Deer Meadow Road. The nearest major metropolitan airport is Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, which is located in Manchester, about 42 miles south.
