Palm Beach Little Ranches is an equestrian community off Southern Boulevard in Wellington with private horse farms and training centers for show jumping and dressage. The palm-tree-lined streets give way to large farms. Those not in the horse business have acres of room between neighbors and can expect residential lots to give 2 to 5 acres of space. The community has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4. “Unless you’re going in there for something, a lot of people don’t know about it,” says Marcia Lichtenwalner, a Realtor at Keller Williams Realty who sells throughout Wellington and Palm Beach County. “It’s a really nice community because it’s private, it’s quiet, and not a lot of cars are zooming through it.”

Various home styles, farms and no HOA
Ranch-style homes, New Traditionals and Colonial Revivals are the main options in the neighborhood and range from $600,000 to $900,000. The larger horse farms, which feature Mediterranean-style homes, can range between $900,000 and $2 million. Lichtenwalner says there is an even mix of farm and homes. Most were built in the 1980s, though there are also builds from the 2000s. The community also has no HOA. Hurricanes are not a significant factor in the area, with some flooding occurring occasionally during storms, but Little Ranches is far enough inland that the effects of storms are usually minimal.

Wellington is an epicenter for equestrian events, including dressage and horse jumping, with the community playing a role in the scene. Training and stabling centers during local competitions include IDA Farm and Diamante Farms. The community’s stables are desirable as horses “get exposed to some of the top trainers in town,” Lichtenwalner says.
Competitions occur year-round in Wellington, but the busiest part of the season is between January and April. Major events include the U.S. Equestrian Open Grand Prix and the Winter Equestrian Festival.
