From affordable Cape Cods to pricier new-traditional homes
Homebuyers looking in West Caldwell will find a variety of housing styles, and these homes don’t stay on the market for very long. “Homes here go very quick,” Frank LaMorte, Broker Associate at Lattimer Realty says. “There’s a lot of demand from city buyers looking to move to the suburbs. It’s a hot market.” Starting at $370,000 and going for as much as $950,000, Cape Cods, split-level and ranch-style homes are common. New-traditional homes also line some streets and are a bit pricier, going for between $900,000 and $1.1 million. Along most neighborhood streets, residents can find maple and oak trees and sidewalks on at least one side, making West Caldwell a walkable community. West Caldwell is also a safe neighborhood as it was given a Crime Score of 2 out of 10 by the CAP Index, well below the national average.

Students attend well-regarded Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools
When it's time for school, local kids can attend the highly ranked Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools system, which earned an overall A-minus grade from Niche, including an A in academics, teachers and college preparation. The district splits students among four elementary schools. One of the elementary schools residents may send their children to is Wilson Elementary School, which earned an A-minus grade from Niche. From there, students move on to Grover Cleveland Middle School, which also received an A-minus grade from Niche. For high school, students would attend James Caldwell High School, which also earned an A-minus grade from Niche. Niche also recognized James Caldwell High for being in the top 100 for best public high school teachers in New Jersey.

Cool off at one of two community pools
Residents looking to cool off from the hot summer can do so at one of the two community pools in the neighborhood. Both Westville Avenue and Cedar Street pools have basketball courts, playgrounds and offer swimming lessons. For smaller children, Cedar Street Pool has a separate kiddie pool. At Memorial Park, next door to the Cedar Street pool, visitors can play tennis with friends or kick around a soccer ball. “Grover Cleveland Park is a big attraction,” Giermanski says. “They have a fishing derby every May. They also do a ton of other events throughout the year, like summer concerts.” Grover Cleveland Park sits just south of the neighborhood but allows residents to play various sports and has a playground for children.

Diverse dining options
“There are so many good restaurants,” Giermanski says. “We’re very fortunate to have an array of great dining choices.” After a day at the pool, residents enjoy The Brook Tap House, a watering hole locals favor. A family-owned and operated restaurant, Brook Tap House's menu features fresh and locally grown ingredients from New Jersey, international and local craft beers, an extensive wine list and custom cocktails. The Original Pancake House has been serving the West Caldwell community since 1968. Longtime favorites include apple pancakes and miniature versions of a Dutch baby pancake. At Russillo Ristorante & Pizzeria, visitors enjoy delicious Italian comfort food like pasta, chicken and veal dishes, and pizza. For authentic Turkish cuisine, Cinar Turkish Restaurant is the place to go. Like its neighbor Caldwell, West Caldwell's unofficial main street is Bloomfield Avenue, where visitors can visit ShopRite for grocery shopping.

“The Caldwell Street Fair has been a community event for over 30 years; it’s one of my personal favorites,” Giermanski says. “They have food trucks, carnival events and kids games. There’s a really fun beer garden as well. It’s always the first Sunday in October.” Various local sponsors put on the event and has had 30,000 or more attendees in past years.
Mountain Ridge Country Club
Residents of West Caldwell have one country club inside the neighborhood's boundaries: Mountain Ridge Country Club. The club features an 18-hole golf course, practice areas, a clubhouse and dining services. Membership is required to use the club.
