Developed in the 1960s, Galaxie is a suburban community, with subdivisions of midcentury homes surrounding a family-friendly park. The neighborhood is on the south end of West Covina, a built-up city with many malls. “The location is a hub between the east side of LA and downtown. I'd say it's convenient with plenty of shopping options,” says real estate agent Richard Huang, who works with RE/MAX Premier Properties and has about two years of experience in the area. Galaxie has direct access to two strip malls, plus Valley Boulevard, a thoroughfare renowned for its diverse dining options.

Ranch-style homes, manufactured homes and more options in Galaxie

Galaxie consists of winding roads and cul-de-sacs of single-family homes. The streets are lined with palm trees, some featuring views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Mostly residential, the neighborhood has many ranch-style homes with driveways and attached garages. They range from $750,000 to $1 million. On the south end of Galaxie, the Friendly Village of West Covina is a mobile home park with a community clubhouse and swimming pool. The area’s manufactured homes range from $200,000 to $300,000. The northeast section of the neighborhood has more housing options, including townhouse-style condos, ranging between $600,000 and $750,000. Next door, new construction contemporary homes can start from $1.1 million and go up to $1.2 million. “Home prices on average aren't as high as in west LA, and the homes move quickly,” Huang says. On average, homes stay on the market in Galaxie for 23 days in contrast to the national average of 47 days, with a median sales price of $735,000.

Friendship Park, Walnut Hills Park and Sunshine Park

Centrally located Friendship Park provides a recreation space that most Galaxie residents can walk to from their homes. It offers a ballfield, a basketball court and dog-friendly walking paths. Walnut Hills Park, less than a mile north of the neighborhood, has a gazebo and a shaded playground with a swing set. A couple of miles west of Galaxie lies Sunshine Park, best-known for its splash pad, open in the summertime. It also has exercise equipment and picnic pavilions.

25 miles to downtown LA and more transportation

Via Valley Boulevard, Galaxie is about 25 miles away from downtown LA. The neighborhood is only 10 miles from Pomona using state Route 60. Some residents have jobs within the city of West Covina, with employers from the West Covina Unified School District to Queen of the Valley Hospital. The Foothill Transit bus system serves the community. For commercial flights, the Ontario International Airport is located about 20 miles away.

On the community’s west side, the Cali Saigon Mall offers an array of local restaurants. The options range from the relaxed Japanese spot 37°2 Degree Cafe & Curry to Jin Tea House, an elaborately decorated eatery serving specialty drinks. The plaza also offers Indonesian, Salvadorean and Chinese cuisine. For grocery shopping, SF Supermarket provides everything from produce to imported Asian groceries. Just south of this shopping center is a smaller strip mall, with casual fast-food options like Nogales Burgers #1 and Pizza Supreme.
