Contoured by the Sheyenne River to the east, it's pretty self-explanatory how River West got its name. Located just over 6 miles west of downtown Fargo, River West sticks out among the area's quickly-growing suburbs for its proximity to shopping and dining plus its abundance of green space. "Our city is growing so fast, over half of this town has been built just since 1995. It really makes having nice trees and greenery a commodity," says Joel Schneeberger, a local Realtor who has been selling homes since 2014. Because many homes in River West back up to the Sheyenne River, the neighborhood has a more natural vibe than other nearby areas—despite being located right next to Main Avenue. " Gregg Bauman, a Realtor with Keller Williams, echoes this sentiment, saying “River West benefits from a canopy of older, more mature trees that locals appreciate for the greenery and shade they provide.” River West is a laidback, family-friendly suburb that welcomes newcomers to the area.
Vintage suburban homes in River West
Turning away from busy streets like Main Avenue, West Fargo's industrial scenery is replaced by single-story ramblers and tree-lined streets that grant River West a cozy, welcoming vibe. "You know, it gives you a sense that you're in a Norman Rockwell Painting as you look down the street," says Bauman. Built through the late 1960s and '70s, many of the homes in the neighborhood bear characteristic styles from the time. Brightly colored ranch-style builds and minimalist bungalows with wood siding are the norm, though some larger modern builds can also be found here. Each home also has its own individual character thanks to long-time homeowners adding thoughtfully made touches over time. Features from colorful paint jobs to wooden patios constructed on the front of homes add to each home's unique character. Despite a relatively low sales price of just $285,000 dollars, many properties also back up to wooded areas along the river, providing a peaceful, green background to everyday life. Three-bedroom cottages and ranch-styles with about 1,000 square feet of space tend to sell from $240,000 to $300,000 dollars, while larger modern homes with over 3,000 square feet sell from about $300,000 to $425,000 dollars.
