West Manchester Township features suburbs outside York
West Manchester Township is an up-and-coming suburb just outside of York. Though long known for its rural landscape, the area has been developed over the past few decades with single-family homes and townhouse rows, shopping strips and industrial parks, making it more convenient and accessible as a landing spot in York County. "It used to be more farmland like East Manchester, but it's been built up and developed over time," says Michael Alessandroni, a real estate agent with Inch & Co. Real Estate, and a York County native who worked at Northeastern School District for 28 years.
Single-family homes on rural lots and townhouse options
Buyers can find larger New Traditionals and Colonial Revivals, or modest ramblers and Cape Cods. Some homes are isolated by plots of rolling farmland and dense trees, while smaller neighborhoods to the north, like Shiloh, have a more traditional suburban layout. Single-family homes in West Manchester Township range from $135,000 to $800,000 and vary by square footage, lot size and age. Townhouses run from $135,000 to $270,000 and usually feature two to three bedrooms.
Locals tee off at Briarwood Golf Club or explore Lake Williams
Briarwood Golf Club offers a public 18-hole championship course and the Briarpatch Sports Lounge, where players can grab food and drinks after a day on the greens. Lake Williams is a few miles south of town. It has a loop trail for hikers and a boat launch for kayaks and canoes. Residents can get a membership to join the nearby Country Club of York, with a clubhouse for private events, a golf course, swimming pool and pickleball courts.
West Manchester Town Center and nearby restaurants
One of the benefits of the recent development in the area has been an expansion in local options for both shopping and dining. "There's a lot more shopping and restaurants in West Manchester rather than East Manchester, which is more farmland," says Alessandroni. Whitecomb's Farm Market is in Shiloh and offers farm-fresh produce and homemade baked goods, deli sandwiches and seasonal plants for purchase. West Manchester Town Center is an alfresco mall, with a Walmart, HomeGoods and Regal West Manchester where locals can catch the latest hit movies. Delco Plaza is just across U.S. Route 30 and is home to department stores like Sierra and T.J. Maxx. Fresh Start Restaurant sits on West Market Street, and serves donuts and omelets for breakfast, and burgers or chicken sandwiches for lunch.
