But someone doesn’t have to be an outdoor enthusiast to find value in this community. In fact, this community is full of value, thanks to its relatively accessible housing prices. “You could probably get some cheaper homes there,” says local Realtor Terene Cain of River Point Realty, LLC., based in the nearby city of Washington.

The town of West Newton is very small. Many residents who live there are from low-income households. The town itself has lots of potential. It is a GAP trail town, but doesn't have many open businesses. The buildings and homes are falling apart.

West Newton is a quiet, small town that offers a few dining options and a grocery store. It's a safe community that boasts very little crime, and it's in much better condition than other areas in the Mon Valley. The downtown area has a few businesses and a lot of potential, but a lack of investment has hindered any modern growth. The GAP trail runs parallel to the Youghiogheny River on the west side of the town, and it's both well maintained and a peaceful experience. West Newton is surrounded by scenic beauty, and it's a perfect location for any outdoorsman that enjoys hiking, fishing, or kayaking. This is not a town for anyone expecting a high-energy nightlife or to constantly party, but I don't think any rural town offers that. There are very little job opportunities for non-remote workers, and the commute to Pittsburgh is about 50 minutes. This is a perfect town for any family that prefers quiet and nature, and I would not hesitate to raise children here.
