Central West Palm Beach living under a mature canopy
Flamingo Park is a historic and central West Palm Beach neighborhood known for its beautiful Spanish Revival homes. House tours are a classic holiday event, says Linda Cullen, a longtime resident and Realtor with the Corcoran Group. “And every other spring, we have a garden tour.” Flamingo Park’s sidewalk-lined streets are shaded by a mature tropical canopy, making walks and bike rides around the community all the more scenic. The community lies less than 2 miles south of downtown, roughly 3 miles from Palm Beach’s sandy shores.
Historic Spanish Revivals
Flamingo Park’s start as a neighborhood began in 1921 when a retired pineapple plantation and mango orchard was pre-plotted for single-family homes. Over the next two decades, the community’s iconic Spanish Colonial and Spanish Mission Revival homes were built on densely set lots featuring tropical fruit trees. Homes in Flamingo Park don’t come up for sale often, but based on the limited data available, prices start with two- and three-bedroom cottages, ranging from around $600,000 to $2 million, with historic properties on the high end. Most houses with four or more bedrooms begin close to $1.2 million and list for as much as $2.6 million. Established in 1987, Flamingo Park’s active, voluntary neighborhood association focuses on improving the quality of life and preserving the natural scenery. “We put a lot of our money back into the neighborhood in terms of street signage and events,” Cullen says. “It’s such a friendly neighborhood, and I think that’s because of the monthly social hours and annual block parties. It engenders camaraderie… Just helps people know each other.”
