A neighborhood where horses roam amid custom homes. Sounds like the kind of place you might find in rural Iowa. But Palm Beach Ranchettes offers this appealing setting in the heart of South Florida. “The interesting thing about this neighborhood is that it's like a Midwestern neighborhood was transplanted in Florida and given a Palm Beach makeover,” says Realtor Jann Flowers of Realty Home Advisors, a top-producing company in nearby Boca Raton. Each of the equestrian-friendly neighborhood’s homes is located on 1 acre. “The lots are very large here, and some homes are gated, with stables in the back, just like a real ranch,” Flowers says.
An array of custom homes in various styles
The neighborhood is HOA-free, resulting in a collection of homes that reflect a variety of architectural styles. Traditional ranch-style designs are common among the older homes, which also include midcentury-moderns, split-levels and farmhouses. Newer homes feature contemporary builds and transitional designs. There are no sidewalks, but there are no through streets, either. That makes it easy to get around, on foot or on horseback. “You have a lot of privacy in the middle of the city,” says Platinum Living Realty’s Anastasia Gudilina, who recently sold a home in the neighborhood. Prices range from around $700,000 for established homes to as much as $1.4 million for large contemporary offerings. Prices have increased as growth has spread westward from the more-populated coastal areas of Palm Beach County. “The new development around here, especially along Highway 441, has brought attention to these neighborhoods that used to be sort of secret, out-of-the-way places. And prices are going to continue to reflect that,” Flowers says. The neighborhood is far enough inland that there is no risk of flooding. Wind damage, however, can be a concern, especially during hurricane season.

Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, Wellington International are recreational highlights
Jim Brandon Equestrian Center is a featured attraction at the Okeeheelee Park complex, a sprawling natural area north of the neighborhood. Equestrian trails, the Pinehurst Mountain Bike Trail and a boat launch are additional amenities at Okeeheelee Park South. The rest of the complex features more water for kayakers, as well as a golf course, a disc golf course, a water park and a dog park. Closer to home, golfers can take on the challenge of Palm Beach National’s 18-hole public course. Less than 5 miles west is Wellington International, which hosts world-class events for a global audience such as the Winter Equestrian Festival and the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. The Lake Worth oceanfront and its popular beaches are less than 10 miles east.

Nearby 441 provides access to a range of shopping and dining options
While the neighborhood is relatively secluded, residents enjoy quick access to a variety of shopping and dining options concentrated around Highway 441. “The fact that this area is so accessible to 441, which connects everything, really puts these homes on the map for people,” Flowers says. “The whole area is growing and building out. New shops are going up all the time and there’s a new restaurant popping up what seems like nearly every week.” The Mall at Wellington Green is less than 2 miles from the neighborhood. It is anchored by Macy’s and JC Penney. Nearby is a Whole Foods and several restaurants. Trader Joes’s at Village Green Center shopping mall and Publix at Woods Walk Plaza are even closer. Lemongrass Asian Bistro at Wellington Green, PDQ Chicken at Village Green Center and Mississippi Sweets BBQ Co. at Woods Walk illustrate the range of nearby dining options.

Top-rated schools such as Palm Beach Central High are a major draw
Neighborhood students have access to a trio of top Palm Beach County public schools, a major draw for prospective homeowners, Flowers says. Discovery Key Elementary and Emerald Cove Middle schools are rated A-minus by Niche. Palm Beach Central High is an A-rated school that features the Cambridge International course of study. It also offers choice academy programs in culinary arts, engineering and information technology.

Easy access to regional travel via three major highways
Public transportation is limited in the area, so the neighborhood is car-dependent. Wellington Regional Medical Center is less than 2 miles away. Highway 441 and the Florida Turnpike are just minutes away. Both Interstate 95, which connects directly to points of interest along the coast, and the Palm Beach International Airport, are about 10 miles away.
