East Westfield
Homes range from midcentury ranch-styles to a gated golf course community
East Westfield is where the Westfield of new and the Westfield of old meet. There are subdivisions with midcentury, ranch-style homes that sell for between $225,000 and $350,000. Other areas feature new traditional styles from the 1990s and 2000s ranging all the way from $250,000 to just over $1 million. East Westfield is also the home of the city’s most exclusive address – The Bridgewater Club. The gated golf course community features estate-style homes selling from just under $900,000 to as much as $3.25 million. Benson says the neighborhood is particularly appealing to out-of-town shoppers because they "can get a home that would cost them millions more in California or New York."Westfield-Washington School District earns A-plus rating
Westfield-Washington School District earns an overall Niche score of A-plus and is ranked as the seventh-best district in the state. Young students in the area usually begin at Washington Woods or Carey Ridge Elementary, both of which earn A-ratings. Students move on to A-rated Westfield Intermediate School for two years, then spend two years at A-rated Westfield Middle School. A-rated Westfield High School offers many uniquely engaging educational opportunities and extracurricular activities, such as Small Business Operations classes, a student newspaper and more than 80 other student clubs. Westfield’s athletic program is also highly accomplished, producing two Major League Baseball players and Indiana’s 2022 Mr. Basketball. Guerin Catholic High School, located just across the border in Noblesville, is also a draw for many locals. With an A rating, Guerin is ranked the fifth-best Catholic high school in the state.Westfield's parks cater to multiple recreational needs
Recreational opportunities abound in East Westfield as well as the city at large. The town may be best known regionally for Grand Park, which is the largest youth sports campus in the United States with more than 50 athletic fields plus an indoor basketball and volleyball facility that includes two NBA regulation courts. "Some parents here start travel sports as soon as their kids can walk, it seems," Benson says. But leisure is important to locals, too. In East Westfield, Cool Creek Park is a 90-acre expanse with a hands-on nature center, a large play area and 4 miles of wooded trails. Freedom Trail Park features more trails as well as a sensory garden and inclusive playground designed with support from the Hamilton County Autism Support Group. Asa Bales Park has a disc golf course and skate park. Grand Junction Plaza is a recently redeveloped public green space — four years and $35 million in the making. Today, visitors can unwind in a wetland garden at the center of a multi-layered series of modernist architecture flanked by an outdoor cafe. The Bridgewater Club has private membership for its 18- and 9-hole Pete Dye-designed golf courses. Other nearby courses include The Club at Chatham Hills — another Dye-designed private course — and the public Pebble Brook Golf Club.National chains and local favorites are both prevalent
East Westfield residents don’t have to travel far for a multitude of shopping and dining options. Village Park Plaza features big box stores like Walmart, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Hobby Lobby and Kohl’s. Kroger, The Fresh Market and Fresh Thyme all have grocery stores in the neighborhood. Many national chain restaurants have locations in East Westfield, and are joined by locally owned favorites such as Kizuki Ramen and Izakaya, The Italian House and Big Hoffa’s Smokehouse. Field Brewing is one of the neighborhood's newer additions and has seasonal food and beer menus as well as locally roasted coffees.U.S. Route 31 a key local highway connecting to Carmel
East Westfield’s growth is made possible by its location along U.S. Route 31, which heads south into Carmel and 10 miles beyond to Interstate 465. The neighborhood is about 21 miles north of Downtown Indianapolis, which equates to a commute of 40 minutes or more. State Road 32 (Main Street) and 146th Street also make it convenient to travel eastward to Noblesville. Riverview Health Westfield Hospital is at the junction of U.S. 31 and Main Street. West of U.S. 31, bicyclists and hit the Monon Trail, which stretches all the way to Downtown Indy. There is no public transportation available in Westfield. Also of note: several homes and businesses in East Westfield have Carmel mailing addresses because they share a zip code with the larger neighboring city. However, everything north of 146th Street is zoned for Westfield schools and city services.A variety of community events, plus Colts training camp
In addition to hosting many youth sports tournaments throughout the year, Grand Park is the home of the Indianapolis Colts preseason training camp in late summer. Football and basketball games at Westfield High are both well-attended. Grand Junction Plaza hosts community events like the Westfield In Lights holiday tree ceremony, Shamrock Drop St. Patrick’s Day festival, Trick or Treating in the Plaza and Westfield Farmers Market.Town's historic Quaker roots still evident
Westfield was founded by Quakers in the mid-19th century and traces of that history can still be found in East Westfield. Union Bible College and Academy, originally a Quaker institution, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Though the seminary is no longer affiliated with the denomination, the Westfield Friends Church and Union Friends Church are both nearby.
