Charming rural community along the Tennessee-Kentucky border
Along the border between Tennessee and Kentucky is Westmoreland, an old railroad town that continues to embrace rural charm today with winding country roads and rolling hills. “Westmoreland has a small-town, rural feel,” says Mayor David Leath. “It feels like a Mayberry town where everyone is connected, but we are growing.” With a population of less than 3,000, the community gathers around Park Street where there sits a collection of local shops, restaurants and parks. Most residents live around this downtown area, but those looking to further embrace rural living can find plenty of privacy and space further north or south of downtown.
New builds and 20th century homes dot the streets
Homebuyers can find traditional homes built in the mid-1900s alongside new construction built in the early 2020s. “There is a lot of new development going on right now with farmland being purchased to bring more homes to the area,” says Leath. Around Park Street, homebuyers can find older three-bedroom ranch-style homes with quarter-to-half-acre lots for about $185,000 to $300,000. Further north, homes sit on sprawling estates with up to 20 acres of land and many boast horse paddocks, barns and fruit trees. Homebuyers in this northern area can find three-bedroom ranch-style homes for $350,000 to $575,000, with the price increasing with the size of the lot. New construction is scattered throughout Westmoreland, with modern three-bedroom farmhouses with five acres of land starting around $535,000.
