Savanna is gated South Florida living, replete with amenities
A trip past Savanna’s staffed gates may feel like entering a tropical getaway. For those who live here, it simply means they’ve arrived home. This sprawling South Florida development snakes around a series of lakes, offering homebuyers the opportunity to find a property by the water. It’s also filled with a variety of ways for residents to spend their free time, including several parks and an on-site café. “It’s a very family-oriented community with amazing amenities,” says Ruth “Ruthi” Rutenberg, a local Realtor with City Group Consulting LLC, who has 20 years of industry experience. “It has a resort-style pool area, a soccer field and pickleball court, basketball court, shaded playground and a roller hockey rink. It’s the only community in Weston that has [an on-site] café. It also has mini golf.”
Similarly styled homes offer a range of floor plans
Savanna is the biggest gated development in Weston, with over 2,800 homes. The houses here are Mediterranean-style options built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with terra-cotta roofs and stucco facades. Floor plans start at about 1,300 square feet, and reach roughly 5,000 square feet on the high end. Many houses sit on waterfront property, and many also have pools in the backyard, on lots that range from under one-tenth of an acre to a few that reach roughly a half-acre. Properties in Savanna under 3,500 square feet sell for anywhere from $500,000 to $1.3 million, while larger homes garner $1.4 million to $1.9 million. HOA fees range from $187 to $218 per month. Savanna also has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, which is significantly better than the national average of 4.
Green space is easy to find around Savanna
There are multiple parks scattered around the Savanna, but the community’s clubhouse is a centerpiece of its recreational offerings. The clubhouse area features four pools complete with a slide, a mini-golf course, a soccer field, and basketball and pickleball courts. The 102-acre, public Weston Regional Park, located just outside Savanna, offers several additional fields and courts, as well as a beach volleyball area and two shaded playgrounds. Also, though multiple lakes flow through the neighborhood, they are not open to recreation.
Residents can take in events with neighbors and other Westoners
Members of the Savanna community organize multiple events for residents throughout the year. “There are movie nights and an egg hunt for Easter,” Rutenberg says. “They have a lot of events for families.” Nearby Weston Regional Park hosts special events, too, including a fireworks show for the Fourth of July and the Weston World Fest in March, a celebration of several cultures.
On-site café and close-by plaza provide food and community
Hungry residents can simply make a stroll to Savanna Commons Café: Sweet & Savory. The on-site restaurant is open every day, and patrons enjoy the empanadas and brownies served there. “It’s a place where people can go and sit and watch the kids play,” Rutenberg says. “People go out for a walk and they get together there for a coffee or something. When I show properties in that community, I typically show it because it is something that makes it different from other communities.” Many more options are within about a 4-mile drive at the Weston Town Center shopping plaza. The Cheese Course is a hot spot for sandwiches, and Negroni Weston attracts diners for brunch. Japan Inn offers a hibachi experience. The Argentine market Graziano's Mercado Weston features a bakery and a butcher, plus a menu of prepared steaks, sandwiches, salads, brunch items and more. The shopping center also includes a Publix. Sawgrass Mills, one of the country’s largest malls in the country at about 2.4 million square feet, is 10 miles from Savanna.
Students have a range of extracurriculars to explore, starting early
The Weston area is within the Broward County Public Schools system, which gets a B-plus grade from Niche and is the sixth-largest district in the country. The system offers multiple school choice options through an annual application process, including magnet programs, open enrollment and out-of-boundary reassignments. A combination of lottery, space availability and district policy priorities, such as sibling, military, or employee status, determines placement. Students in Savanna may start at the A-minus-rated Gator Run Elementary, based on their address. Gator Run is located just outside the neighborhood’s gates and offers after-school clubs like Jr. Chefs, Bucket Drumming and Science Magic. Falcon Cove Middle also gets an A-minus and has 3D printing and artificial intelligence clubs. Cypress Bay High boasts an A-plus rating and features dozens of student groups, including aviation, robotics, esports and fishing clubs. Sagemont Preparatory School is a nearby private option, with an A-plus grade, prekindergarten through 12th grade and student-teacher ratios of 7-to-1.
Close-by interstate connects the community to air travel
Savanna is just about 2 miles from Interstate 75, and flows into I-595 for drives to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Located 21 miles away, the airport provides nonstop flights to over 120 destinations around the world. Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital is 5 miles outside the neighborhood, off Weston Road, and has a 24-hour emergency department.
