Suburban community near D.C.
Looking up, it's not unusual to catch a glimpse of Air Force One flying by Westphalia. Located right by Joint Base Andrews, where the United States president flies to and from, this Prince George’s County suburb offers a slower-paced lifestyle in a community of diverse housing developments in Upper Marlboro. “It’s a newer community that’s becoming very established,” says Realtor Tohmai Smith with RLAH Real Estate. “People are moving here because it’s a very peaceful area and much more affordable compared to D.C. and Virginia.”

Bustling shopping centers in Forestville and small-town feel in Downtown Upper Marlboro
“There aren’t a whole lot of stores and restaurants directly in Westphalia,” says Smith, “But there are plenty of places nearby, which is a huge plus.” For shopping and dining out, locals typically head to neighboring Forestville on the west side of town, which can be a 1- to 7-mile drive, depending on where residents live. Shopping centers like Ritchie Station Marketplace feature big box retailers and a mix of national chain and local comfort food restaurants. Casablanca Café is a local favorite for classic breakfast dishes, whether for dine-in or carryout. Locals also love the rectangular, flaky pizza at Ledo’s, which has served the community since 1955. Downtown Upper Marlboro is also a 1- to 7-mile drive to the east side of town. It offers a more small-town feel with independent shops and restaurants on Main Street, including Olde Towne Inn, where locals enjoy casual American fare.
