Westville provides peaceful living near highways

Westville is a small, rural town within minutes of major metropolises. “It’s a great place for commuting to La Porte, Valparaiso and Chicago,” says Realtor Anna Steuer with eXp Realty, who has sold in the area for six years. “You can get a spacious lot here with a big yard and more square feet.” The town offers a slower pace and a secluded lifestyle, though community parks, schools and other everyday amenities are also available. Westville caters to buyers seeking a large home in the countryside that's not too far from city attractions.

Space to spread out on residential lots

Westville offers single-family ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and New Traditional houses in various landscapes. Suburban streets near the center of town feature densely packed lots and some sidewalks, and most properties have driveways and garages. On the outskirts, lots are more secluded off quiet country roads. The median sales price is $330,000, which is on par with median prices in surrounding areas. However, a four-bedroom home on multiple acres in Westville may sell for $400,000, while a similar property in La Porte could surpass $1 million. “You can easily find a 2-acre home for way less here than in other suburban markets,” Steuer says.

Recreation ranges from baseball to beach days

Prairie Meadow Park is a central community area with baseball fields, basketball courts and a playground. It also has open green space, where crowds gather for the Westville Pumpkin Festival each October. This celebration kicks off the fall season with a pumpkin patch, parade and harvest-themed vendors. The town is also home to Bluhm County Park, a nearly 100-acre space full of meadows, wetlands and forests. The park offers trails for hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing in the winter. It also has picnic tables and an off-leash area for dogs. For a day at the beach, the Indiana Dunes State Park on Lake Michigan is 14 miles northwest.
