Weymouth Township has wooded landscapes and quiet living

Halfway between Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore, Weymouth Township is a rural pocket in Jersey's Pine Barrens. Bordered on the east side by the Great Egg Harbor River and intersected by creeks throughout, the township has expanses of wooded areas dotted with homes and a few locally owned businesses. "It's a lovely area with a really welcoming community," says Jason Myers, real estate agent with Century 21 Glen Cove and longtime resident of the area. Still, locals here enjoy their privacy. "It's the kind of place people go to get their own space and live somewhere surrounded by green," he says.

Secluded homes, waterfront properties and some suburban options

Many homes in Weymouth are tucked away on several acres of woods. Long driveways branching off country roads lead to these secluded properties. "Everyone has plenty of privacy," Myers says. "You don't have to worry about feeling claustrophobic or too tightly packed together, and that's the main appeal for many who come to the area." On the eastern side of town, waterfront homes with private docks also sit on wooded lots. Homebuyers find traditional, Cape Cod and ranch-style properties throughout town, with prices usually ranging from $150,000 to $530,000.There are also some suburban-feeling pockets in Weymouth Township. For instance, the Oaks at Weymouth is a 55-plus community with manufactured homes around tight cul-de-sacs and amenities like pickleball courts and a swimming pool. Homes here sell for between $100,000 and $240,000.

Dining along Tuckahoe Road and more nearby

Railroad Deli is a local business along Tuckahoe Road with a modest selection of groceries and what Myers calls the best wings and subs in the area. "I go there at least a few times a week," he says. "It's really that good, and that convenient for people looking to make a quick shopping trip." Just down the block, Root Cellar Tavern is another hangout featuring a full bar and menu items like burgers and tacos. The neighboring town of Mays Landing has more restaurants and major retailers such as Walmart Supercenter and Acme Markets.

A staple of Weymouth Township dining, The Railroad Deli features a menu packed with pizza, strombolis, cheesesteaks, and fresh deli options.

U.S. Route 40 is nearby, taking drivers 25 miles east to Atlantic City and connecting with other highways into Philadelphia, about 50 miles north.
