White Mountain Lake offers peaceful country club and lake living in Navajo County
Attracting retirees and second-home owners, the community of White Mountain Lake is about 8 miles outside of Show Low in Navajo County. Peaceful homes surround the private lake, which anchors the area and provides recreational opportunities. “It’s a quiet, small community with a private lake,” says Dawna Ruiz, who is a Realtor at West USA Realty with over 10 years of experience. “There’s not a lot going on and it can feel secluded, but there are many mini cities near the area, like Taylor and Show Low, for people to go shopping and dining.”
Single-family and mobile home options in White Mountain Lake
Smaller cabins and cottages may go from $150,000 to about $250,000, with ranch-style homes and traditional farmhouses listing over $300,000. Newer properties built in the 2000s and waterfront homes can go over $600,000. “Most homes are between $300,000 and $600,000,” Ruiz says. “And people can walk around the lake or go fishing and boating.” Manufactured homes, including those in Juniper Ridge, an active adult mobile home community with a golf course, may start out at $30,000 and can go over $300,000. Vacant lots are also available, ranging from $3,000 for 7,000 square feet to over $300,000 for hundreds of acres.
Water recreation and golf outings around the community
The community's residents have access to the private White Mountain Lake, which offers boating, fishing and swimming opportunities. The 18-hole course at Birdie Ranch Golf Club, featuring member events, tournaments and a club restaurant, is open to the public. Many hiking areas surround the community, including the White Mountains Trail, the Los Caballos Trail and the Allen Severson Memorial Wildlife Area.
The area is part of the Show Low Unified School District
The community is zoned for Show Low Unified School District. Whipple Ranch Elementary School, serving students from kindergarten through second grade, and Nikolaus Homestead Elementary School, which teaches grades three to five, both get a B-plus grade from Niche. Show Low Junior High School gets a B-plus, and Show Low High School rates an A-minus. Show Low High partners with Northland Pioneer College to provide students with dual enrollment courses, and also has career and technical education courses in robotics, business, graphic design and sports medicine.
Distance to nearby cities such as Taylor and Show Low
Several highways pass near the community, including Arizona state routes 77, 60 and 260. Taylor is about 15 miles north, while Show Low and the city’s regional airport are about 15 miles south of the area. Show Low Regional Airport has daily flights to and from Phoenix, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is approximately 180 miles southwest. Summit Healthcare is the nearest medical center, about 15 miles away in Show Low.

The area has several restaurants, including the burger stand Hole in One and the local pizzeria MJ's Hideaway Bar and Grill. Residents can get daily essentials at Dollar General, and grocery options such as Safeway and Walmart are south in Show Low.
Festivals and events in the White Mountain area
The community of White Mountain Lake and the small cities in the area organize events throughout the year. Lakeside hosts summer concerts and movies at Jack Barker Memorial Park. Show Low has the local farmers market, White Mountains Market, on Saturdays in the summer. Taylor organizes a long-running annual rodeo event to celebrate Independence Day.
