Whitesboro is a small town between Dallas and Oklahoma, attracting residents who want to live in a rural area near recreational lakes like Lake Texoma and Ray Roberts Lake without being too far from the city. “People move here to escape the hustle and bustle of overcrowded communities in the suburbs of Dallas,” says Realtor Cory Meals with eXp Realty. “Whitesboro is known for its sandy loam soil, which is great for horses and livestock, making Whitesboro a prime location for horse country.”

Career prep in Whitesboro Independent School District
Students can attend schools in Whitesboro Independent School District, which gets a B grade from Niche. J.W. “Dub” Hayes Primary School receives a B-plus, Whitesboro Intermediate School gets a B-minus, Whitesboro Middle School gets a B, and Whitesboro High School gets a B-minus. Parks, Lake Texoma and Ray Roberts Lake State Park
Godwin Park is home to the Whitesboro Community Playground as well as a walking path, picnic areas with grills and a sand volleyball court. The city’s Parks and Recreation department offers summer camps for kids, youth sports leagues and games and dancing for senior citizens. Fifteen miles north, Lake Texoma has several waterfront parks with swimming access and marinas for storing boats. Twenty-four miles south, Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, camping and horseback riding.
Local restaurants and fast food
The community's quaint downtown is filled with local businesses like Lovejoys on Main, a cozy soda fountain and bakery, and 56 Deli, which serves soups, salads and sandwiches. On the north end of town, La Hacienda Mexican Grill is a Tex-Mex restaurant serving large plates of food in a colorful dining room. The town’s north end also has fast-food chains like Whataburger, Taco Casa and McDonald’s. Residents can get groceries from Brookshire Brothers and Dollar General.
Between DFW and Lake Texoma
Whitesboro is located 70 miles north of Dallas and 15 miles south of Lake Texoma, which sits on the Texas-Oklahoma border. “People love that Whitesboro is still close enough to the DFW metroplex to enjoy all that is offered, yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet in the countryside, and they love that Whitesboro is a short drive to Lake Texoma,” Meals says.
