Between a college and shopping areas
Quiet, residential Crestview Heights sits between a major Wichita mall and a Division I state school. This small, rectangular neighborhood is where people live in modest one-story homes, where they walk their dogs down the sidewalks to the neighborhood park and where they can reach Wichita State University and the Bradley Fair outdoor mall in minutes. “It’s a really nice little area,” says J.P. Weigand & Sons Realtor Pamela Hinman. “It’s nearby everything you need, and it’s a really close-knit community.”
Crestview Heights is located by a wide variety of businesses.

Winding suburban streets
Crestview Heights came online during the post-World War II aviation production boom. Its architecture, including ranch-style houses with asymmetrical roofs, reflects the design sensibilities of that time. Traditional houses built in the early 2000s also exist here, and most homes sit right next to each other on quarter-acre lots. The roads are enclosed and winding, and most houses have driveways, some with basketball hoops. Home prices range from $149,000 to $377,000.
Right next to Wichita State
The neighborhood sits right next to Wichita State University. Even though the population of Crestview Heights is mostly renters, there aren’t a lot of college kids living there, Hinman says. Residents still benefit from proximity to the school. The Steve Clark YMCA has a fitness center and indoor basketball courts surrounded by a running track, and the neighborhood is also close to Tyler Field at Eck Stadium, home of WSU Shocker Baseball. While Wichita State has 15 NCAA Division I teams, their only national championship came in 1989. A sculpture garden surrounds WSU’s Ulrich Museum of Art, which features more than 6,700 pieces of work inside.
Community park
Locals can walk to Redbud Park, a 6-acre neighborhood gathering spot with an obstacle course-themed playground and plenty of empty green space for soccer games. Wichita’s 18-mile Redbud Trail stretches across the neighborhood’s southern edge, providing neighbors a pathway for biking or hiking.

Cajun cuisine and big-box stores
Retailers and restaurants line the neighborhood’s eastern border. Locals sip tequila and devour spinach enchiladas at Felipe’s, a Wichita chain for 50 years. Da Cajun Shak features creole cuisine like red beans and gator bites. Crestview Heights has two Asian grocery stores -- Asian Bazaar Grocery and Asian Groceries – and Johnson’s Garden Center, which has sold plants to the community for 90 years. Marine Extremes offers in-home aquariums and has more saltwater fish and coral than anyone else in Wichita. The Bradley Fair outdoor shopping center sits minutes away by car, offering locals easy access to stores like Williams-Sonoma and Warby Parker. Across from Bradley Fair, retailers like Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods operate at the Shops at Tallgrass.
Wichita public schools
Children in Crestview Heights can attend Val Jackson Elementary School, a Wichita public school with a C-minus rating from Niche. The school hosts several fundraising events, including a grandparent’s breakfast, an end-of-the-year carnival and a fall flower sale. Students at this public school also benefit from the Mindfulness Room, an area stocked with books, beanbags and pillows for children to unwind and regulate their big emotions throughout the day. Kids then move on to Stucky Middle School (rated C) and Wichita Heights High School (rated C-plus).

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.
