A culturally focused community that honors its Mexican heritage
In the early 1900s, El Pueblo was home to a large population of Mexican immigrants who moved to Wichita to capitalize on the city’s burgeoning railroad industry. Today, residents will find a neighborhood that both remembers and reimagines its Hispanic roots, with authentic restaurants, vibrant architecture and culturally relevant public art. “Everyone knows this neighborhood,” Bernardo Flores, Owner-Broker of Fiesta Real Estate says. “People come here because there’s so much eating, drinking and celebration of Mexican heritage.”
Stop by El Pueblo’s Farmers Market for your favorite produce.

No shortage of Mexican food options
The neighborhood is also known throughout the city as a Mexican restaurant haven. Residents can start their day with a concha or another traditional Mexican pastry from Panaderia La Casa De Mi Abuela. Then, they can head next door to the bright pink building that houses Alondra’s Tacos, where customers devour corn tortillas stuffed with perfectly seasoned meat and covered in cilantro and onions. Others enjoy Connie’s Mexican Café, where visitors can taste meals served in the restaurant for 50 years, such as the chile verde and guacamole burrito served with refried beans and rice. To end the night, locals can purchase a sweet treat from Paleteria La Reyna, which offers homemade fruit-flavored popsicles, decadent ice cream options and mangos smothered in spicy chamoy sauce. Those who are more into cooking at home can buy meat at Carnicerías El Güero, the local butcher. For additional produce, locals go to the Farmer’s Market, which is an indoor grocery store, despite what the name suggests. Other options for food include a Dillons, Walmart Supercenter and an Aldi in the nearby Sweetbriar and New Leaf shopping centers.

El Pueblo’s Nomar International Market hosts a plethora of community events.
Local events at Nomar International Market
Another popular destination in the neighborhood is Nomar International Market. The bright yellow tower and its open space plaza are home to a plethora of community events. Throughout the spring and summer, a farmers market attracts Wichita residents and vendors from across the city. The center also hosts parties for significant Hispanic heritage holidays, including Cesar Chavez Day, Cinco de Mayo and Puerto Rican Day. Each celebration includes local food trucks, live music and dancing. “It’s a really popular spot,” says Flores. “It’s great for the community and brings in a ton of people.”
Side-by-side ranch-style homes and bungalows
For those looking to buy in the El Pueblo area, “the market is explosive,” Flores says. “I get multiple offers on each house, and they usually sell within the first week they’re listed.” With a price range of $70,000 to $200,000, homes in the neighborhood come in a variety of styles. Homebuyers will notice that the most common layouts are sprawling ranch styles and modest bungalow dwellings. However, in the more northern area, there are a few newly built houses with prominent garages and minimal traditional cottage designs. One may even see a few Spanish Revival styles with terracotta roofs and arched accents, reminding you of the neighborhood’s history. Also, the properties can sometimes include large lots of land. “Most houses are side-by-side, but there is a handful with half-acre lots,” says Flores. “Either way, it’s a quiet and private area.”

In all honesty I am still new here in this state and the thing about it, I haven't had the time to make that many friends, but I feel like once I start school I will make more than enough friends to go be in the outdoor

What can I say about the weather out here... It is a constant guessing game one day it can be the most beautiful day sun out the wind blowing, just a nice 50 degrees outside then all of a sudden its starts to snow. How the weather affects my day to day life is that I am not from around here, I am from Las Vegas, I am use to snow, but up in the mountain. The one good thing I do have to say about this state is that when it snows you have people that will plow the major roads so that way you can get across safely.
