Modest single-family community in Southeast Wichita
Grandview Heights offers a comfortable, suburban-like atmosphere of modest single-family homes about 4 miles southeast of downtown Wichita. According to Caleb Claussen, a local Realtor with Reece Nichols South Central Kansas, this is a good starter-home community with houses selling below the Wichita median single-family home price of $237,000. Calm residential streets lead to shops and restaurants along Harry Street to the north. To the east, residents can walk to a tranquil park with a disc golf course and to the public elementary school.

Multi-cultural dining on Harry Street
There are several places to eat along Harry Street on the north side of Grandview Heights. Between the Vietnamese food at Pho Ong 8, the Chinese buffet at Shanghai and traditional Mexican food at Taqueria El Fogon, the main road has plenty of multi-cultural restaurants from which to choose. Villar’s Mexico Café is also on the neighborhood's west side along the less busy Hillside Street. Locals live right by Big Lots. There’s also a Dillons about 1 mile away for groceries and other essentials. Duck’s Flying Discs is set up at Clapp Park, selling discs and disc golf equipment. Some other local businesses, such as Tillie’s Flower Shop, a family-run florist and the second-oldest business in Wichita, have served the community since 1876.

Ranch-style homes and charming cottages
Grandview Heights predominantly comprises ranch-style houses built between the 1940s and 1950s on approximately 0.20-acre lots. Many feature small front porches and attached garages. There are, however, a few English-style cottages from the 1930s in the neighborhood’s southwest corner. Many homes are side-by-side, about 10 feet apart, except for those on Grandview and Countryside streets, where houses are spaced farther apart on larger quarter-acre lots, offering a more suburban feel. The neighborhood’s two- to four-bedroom homes range from 760 to 2,300 square feet and sell for $115,000 to $230,000.

Disc golf and leisurely strolls at LW Clapp Park
LW Clapp Park, formerly a regulation-style golf course, has been transformed into a disc golf course. The trees are especially vibrant in fall, making it a popular place to play 18 holes or go for a casual stroll on the walkway. There are also a few pocket parks, such as Meadowlark Park, which has a sandy area with a merry-go-round and other play equipment, and Grandview Heights Park, a 1-acre space with a short walkway, picnic tables and a charcoal grill. Residents can also get active by hitting the gym at Genesis Health Clubs.

Public transportation is available with Wichita Transit bus stops all along Harry Street. It’s about a 1-mile drive to U.S. Route 400, which can be taken for a 4-mile drive to downtown Wichita and 9 miles to Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.
