Attractions at WSU

The WSU campus offers nearby cultural attractions like the Ulrich Museum of Art, where people can admire thousands of pieces from photography to paintings. The museum also boasts the Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection. To watch a Shockers basketball game, locals can go to the Charles Koch Arena, nicknamed “The Roundhouse” for its circular design. Smaller house styles

Northeast of downtown Wichita, Ken-Mar is composed of a strip mall and residential streets of smaller houses on compact lots often shaded by tall trees. The area isn’t walkable for errands, but many of the streets have sidewalks for strolls around the neighborhood. As for architecture, most of the two and three-bedroom homes come in the National style. There are also larger ranch-style homes, split-levels and bungalows. No matter the style, each house typically has a driveway and a one-car garage. Sales prices range from $60,000 for a ranch-style house in need of renovations to $175,000 for a move-in ready bungalow.

To downtown via East Douglas Avenue

About 5 miles from downtown Wichita, residents can easily commute to the big city via East Douglas Avenue, which takes around 10 minutes or longer during rush hour. Wichita Transit provides bus services for easy access to public transportation. As for a nearby hospital, locals can go to Wesley Medical Center. Residents can find flights at the Wichita Dwight D. Wichita Public Schools

Students in Ken-Mar attend Wichita Public Schools, which earns a B-minus on Niche. Schools include Adams Elementary, Coleman Environmental Magnet Middle School and Wichita Southeast High School. The elementary school earns a C-minus grade, the middle has a C and the high school earns a C-plus rating on Niche. Adams Elementary focuses its course of study on economics and entrepreneurship. Every other week, each grade attends a class about money management. Students practice fiscal responsibility daily with Adams Bucks, a program that rewards students with earnings that they can spend at the Adams Trading Post. Students also start savings accounts and visit the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City.

From a playground to a rail trail

Stretching over 11 acres, Claude Lambe Park has a fishing pond where visitors can spot local wildlife. Children can run around on the playground, swing set and small ropes course. For hiking or biking, a portion of Wichita’s 18-mile Redbud Trail, a rail trail, also runs through the neighborhood. It even leads to the 18-hole public fairway at the MacDonald Golf Course.
