Suburban Neighborhood in Wichita, Kansas

Throughout the 1920s and '40s, an abundance of people moved to North End Riverview to work in Wichita’s burgeoning railroad industry. Train tracks still span the area, but it’s now filled with people looking to live on peaceful, large plots of land. “There’s not much traffic, because it’s primarily residential, so it’s very quiet,” says Fiesta Real Estate owner-broker Bernardo Flores. “Most of the houses are also bigger and more private than what you can get in the central part of the city.”
Sitting on half to 1-acre lots, houses in North End Riverview are a remnant of the decades in which the community was popularized. Find a few charming bungalow-style Craftsman homes and side-gabled national dwellings circa the early 1900s. However, sprawling ranch styles and split levels from the midcentury are more prominent. You’ll also notice brand-new contemporary builds with four to five bedrooms here. “There is a wide variety of styles here, and that makes the market competitive; houses can sell within two weeks,” says Flores. To live in North End Riverview, it will cost you anywhere between $300,000 and $600,000, a range above a Wichita home’s average $200,000 selling price.
Children west of 53rd Street can attend Earhart Environmental Elementary, named for native Kansan and famous pilot Amelia Earhart. The school is on 11 acres of land filled with forested nature trails, a pond and a monarch butterfly garden. Then, students go to Pleasant Valley Middle, where they can join the chess club or participate in the National Academic League, a scholastic competition with questions about literature, science or government. Lastly, students attend Wichita Heights High School, where they can take over 200 different electives or honor courses. They can also join various clubs, including K-Pop Dance Club or the Dungeons & Dragons group that meets every Friday.
Thanks to the Little Arkansas River streaming down the middle of North End Riverview, residents are close to several recreational hubs. Walk to 7-acre Riverview Park and explore the wooded banks of the waterway or hit a home run on the baseball diamond. Adjacent to Earhart Environmental Elementary is 32-acre Hellers Park, which is a designated Wichita Wild Habitat area. The green space offers trails cutting through tall native trails and stunning river views. North End Riverview is also only 7 miles from 126-acre Dr. Glen Dey Park and its two playgrounds. Children can enjoy the newly built jungle gym in the park’s western area, which has a zipline and swing set. At the eastern playground, Kansas history comes alive with a covered wagon and a life-sized buffalo statue.
When you need to stock up on groceries, a Walmart Supercenter is on North Meridian Avenue. However, if you’d rather go out to eat, a few locally owned eateries are nearby. Head towards Valley Center and start your morning with a latte at Buffalo Brew Coffee Company. The kiosk also serves signature lotus energy drinks flavored with syrups like cherry-lime or peach. You’ll also find plenty of other eating options on nearby North Broadway Street, including Savute’s, the oldest Italian restaurant in the city. Since 1944, residents have flocked to the quaint establishment for creamy fettuccine alfredo or classic spaghetti and meatballs. North End Riverview is also only about 10 miles from NewMarket Square. As the city's largest open-air shopping center, find many nationally known retailers like Ulta Beauty or Old Navy.
If you’re looking to live somewhere with large lots, a tranquil atmosphere and proximity to other Wichita hot spots, North End Riverview is where you’ll find everything and more.
