A relaxed Wichita neighborhood
Ideally situated between the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers, North Riverside has steadily become one of Wichita's most desirable neighborhoods. This primarily residential area is for those wanting to enjoy the relaxed nature of suburbia while still being just a few miles from downtown. When folks aren't enjoying fresh air at one of the community's green spaces, they often head to nearby neighborhoods for more recreational or culinary options. This proximity to just about everything is one of the reasons Niche ranks it as one of the top 10 neighborhoods in the city. Given everything, it's an area where "for the most part, people tend to want to settle there," says local Realtor Janiece Erbert with Keller Williams Realty. "A lot of people that were raised in the area are returning to that area because they loved it."
North Riverside slowly developed into one of the most popular neighborhoods in Wichita.

Tudor Revivals and Craftsman builds
North Riverside’s architectural development began to boom in the ‘20s and largely continued until the ‘60s. Throughout this period, construction often consisted of Craftsman bungalows and red brick Tudor Revivals. The midcentury housing market brought ranch-styles, and while there are some newer developments, most properties here are older homes. Listing prices typically go between around $90,000 and $300,000. A perk for many living in residences along the community's borders are a view of one of the rivers; some people who live in apartment complexes enjoy being right at the border of a small lake. Most residents, though, have views of the quiet streets. Some areas feature sidewalks for people who enjoy walking around their community. As for parking, many residents have detached or attached garages, but it is common for people here to park in their driveways or on the streets.
Tudor Revivals are scattered throughout North Riverside.
Many of North Riverside's properties are small single-story dwellings.

Grocery stores, Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen and more
Just northwest of North Riverside is a shopping corridor. "It’s one of the few areas in the city that has three grocery stores,” says local broker Bernardo Flores with Fiesta Real Estate. The area is home to Walmart, Aldi and Dillons. It also boasts highly rated eateries like Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen, which is known for its garlic fried rice. Some locals opt for carry-out, but others dine in, admiring an interior complete with anime graffiti art. Another popular option is Bronx Pizza & Pints, whose name perfectly encapsulates what the establishment is known for. For a sweet treat, locals can try something from Palacana’s extensive menu. It serves an array of Mexican desserts, including churros. For other offerings, locals are just a few miles from culinary hotspots like Delano.

Minisa Park, South Woodland Park and nearby recreational spots
The neighborhood’s recreational hub is Minisa Park, a green space bordering the Little Arkansas River. Here, kids can spend their time on the monkey bars while basketball players practice their dribbling skills. Summertime means that the park’s public pool is open for those wanting to cool off. The park also offers convenient access to a waterfront paved path that can get folks to the neighborhood’s other recreational area, South Woodland Park. Here, children can have fun on the swing set, and picnickers take advantage of the park's grassy expanse. For other options, North Riverside residents are just a couple miles from the Sedwick County Zoo and the public-use Arthur B. Sim Golf Course.

From there, students can head to C-minus-rated Marshall Middle School, which features unique course offerings, including gaming and piano. Since both schools are centrally located, “most kids walk to school when the weather is nice,” Flores says. Students can then head to C-plus-rated Wichita High School North.
