There are a wide variety of shops and stores throughout Northeast K-96.
A neighborhood filled with commercial options along Kansas Highway 96
Northeast K-96 may be named for the state highway spanning its southern region, but residents of this Wichita enclave won’t even need to hop on the thoroughfare to reach plenty of essentials. “It’s between Woodlawn Boulevard and North Rock Road, and those are two very convenient streets for shopping and eating,” says Jack Silvers, the owner-broker of River City Realty, who has sold multiple homes in the area. Places like Sam’s Club and Taco Bell surround a variety of New Traditional dwellings and mid-rise apartment complexes. North Chisholm Creek Park also borders the neighborhood to the west, where anglers can fish from the grassy shore around the lake, and hikers can trek a 2-and-a-half-mile trail.
There are a wide variety of home styles found throughout Northeast K-96.
A rental-heavy enclave with large, New Traditional dwellings
Cul-de-sacs at the core of Northeast K-96 are brimming with homes built through the late 1990s and early 2000s. Houses with Tudor-style elements sit on quarter-acre lots dotted with young oak trees and enclosed by picket fences. Four-bedroom L-shaped ranch styles feature brick-and-vinyl facades and two-car garages. “There’s a few tri-levels here, which is a rarity for this part of Wichita,” says Silvers. “The houses are big. Some also have five bedrooms, but they are well-priced, and that’s one of the main selling points.” Though the neighborhood is 71% renters, buying here typically costs between $200,000 and $250,000, a range similar to a Wichita home’s average $250,000 selling point. Renters will find one-bedroom apartments at Eaglerock Village costing around $700 per month, while two-bedroom townhouses costing around $1,000 at The Vineyards complex.

Locals can grab groceries at Sam’s Club or Dillons, pick up a prescription from Walgreens or buy a new outfit from Kohls. Takeout spots like China Go and Thai Table, plus drive-throughs such as McDonald’s or Arby’s, make getting dinner easy. Jumbo’s is a local option in the area, known for Italian beef sandwiches made with bread flown in from Chicago. Hand-ground burgers and craft soda in glass bottles can be enjoyed from the patio at Fizz. Over 50 other stores like Barnes & Noble or Eddie Bauer are only 3 miles south at the Bradley Fair Shopping Center.
Wichita Public Schools and a private Islamic option
Children here can attend Gammon Elementary and Stucky Middle, both of which have C grades from Niche. Then, they may go to C-plus-graded Wichita Heights High, where the athletics program has won 25 state championships in the 6A division since opening in 1963. The school also offers several college credit courses in partnership with Wichita State University, including teaching as a career, business essentials and English composition. Anoor Islamic School is a private option in the neighborhood, serving preschool through high school students since 1989.

Hike the Chisholm Creek Trail or work out at the Dennis Schoenebeck North YMCA
Locals can hike the nature trail at North Chisholm Creek Park, home to a fishing lake stocked with channel catfish and largemouth bass. Following the trail, a mile south leads to the Great Plains Nature Center, an educational hub for all things midwestern flora and fauna. Boardwalk paths crossing through hardwood forests and prairie land also surround the facility. Dennis Schoenebeck North YMCA is immediately south of the neighborhood, offering a fitness center and numerous programs, ranging from youth basketball to gymnastics classes. While there’s a lap pool and sauna inside, summertime fun abounds the waterpark outside, where people can float in the wave pool or glide down the twisty slide.
