The Moorings
Exploring the waters and beaches of Crystal Lake
Residents enjoy taking their pontoon boats and kayaks out on Crystal Lake. People enjoy fishing as the lake is stocked with largemouth bass, crappie and catfish. There’s even more wildlife to observe along the banks where beavers and deer often frequent. Residents can kayak or take their boats to the miles of sandy shoreline on the west side of the lake. On warm summer days, it’s typical to see dozens of pontoons beached, with people swimming in the water, having picnics and playing beach volleyball. The Fourth of July is especially important to this community. Pontoon boats are often decorated in red, white and blue before they set sail to watch fireworks and enjoy live music at the Pretty Penny Point Peninsula.Lakefront, Florida-style homes
Though there are a few homes close to the entrance that don’t have lake views, the vast majority of homes are waterfront properties with private boat docks. Neo-eclectic-style houses are the most common, many with Mediterranean terracotta-tiled roofs, resembling homes commonly found in Florida. They typically offer around 3,000 to 4,500 square feet of living space, though there are a few properties that have us much as 8,000 square feet. There are several cul-de-sacs that create small inlets in the lake. North Portwest Circle offers a long stretch of homes with broader views of the water. Homes off the water sell for around $350,000 to $450,000. A house located along a small inlet ranges from around $450,000 to $550,000. And those with the most expansive lake views go for $550,000 to $1.2 million.Dual credit courses at Valley Center High
Students start at West Elementary, which gets a B-plus grade from Niche and has a brand-new outdoor classroom made entirely of recycled materials. They’ll go on to B-plus-graded Valley Center Intermediate for fourth and fifth grade. Junior high students attend Valley Center Middle, graded a B, and finish their degrees at Valley Center High, which also gets a B. The school offers dual credit courses provided by Wichita State University, so students can get a head start.Shopping and Dining on North Meridian
Residents exit the community onto North Meridian Avenue. From there, it's a 1-mile drive north to the intersection of West 53rd Street, where there's a Walmart. The intersection also has a Papa John's and a few fast-food restaurants, including McDonald's, Taco Bell and Braum's Ice Cream & Dairy Store. It's about a 4-mile drive to get to other nearby restaurants, such as Savute's, the oldest Italian restaurant in the city, which opened in 1944. NewMarket Square, Wichita's biggest open-air shopping center, is also 8 miles away, with plenty of more shopping and dining options.10 miles to Downtown Wichita
Downtown Wichita commuters have a 10-mile drive. It starts on North Meridian Avenue, which runs 1 mile south to Interstate 235. From there, it's a 3-mile drive east to Interstate 135, which leads another 6 miles south to downtown.Low crime score
