A gated subdivision in The Villages

Harmeswood of Belle Aire is a neighborhood in The Villages, the country’s largest 55-plus community. According to villager Keith Caulk, a Realtor with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, The Villages "is a community with gates, but [it is] not a gated community. " Harmeswood of Belle Aire is an exception to that. It offers more seclusion than other subdivisions while still being a golf cart ride away from everything The Villages is known for. The Villages is a very active community, Caulk says. “When you get here, just go to the closest pool or take a lesson in something — it’s a great way to meet people.” Harmeswood of Belle Aire is less than a mile from two recreation centers, a country club and a championship golf course. Caulk advises newcomers to give in to the hype and hop on a golf cart. "With all the roundabouts we have, you’re better off in a cart,” he says with a laugh.

Glenview County Club and the Savannah Center

Residents in The Villages pay a monthly amenity fee that covers access to the community’s recreational facilities, including country clubs. However, with Glenview Country Club less than a mile away, those in Harmeswood of Belle Aire may be interested in membership enhancements for access to the pool, dibs on tennis court reservations and priority tee times for the championship golf course. The Savannah Center’s theater welcomes patrons with grand columns and classic Colonial Revival architecture. Spanish Springs Town Square

There are four town squares in The Villages, and each hosts nightly entertainment between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Spanish Springs Town Square, the closest to the neighborhood, just celebrated its 30th anniversary as The Villages’ first town square. Its stucco-sided storefronts and towering royal palms encircle the heart of the square, which is an outdoor entertainment venue. Customers dining on the patios of surrounding restaurants tap their feet along to live music as they enjoy dinner and drinks. Amerikanos Grille is a family-owned and -operated Greek-American restaurant. Its flavorful menu, jovial atmosphere and outdoor seating make it an all-around favorite. On the edge of the square, novice and pro bowlers alike show their stuff at Spanish Springs Lanes. The bowling alley has 35 lanes and an attached eatery, McCall’s Tavern. The casual pub serves a menu of classics, from double-decker cheeseburgers to spicy wings. As for running errands, Spanish Springs Town Square is surrounded by convenient businesses like Publix and local doctor’s offices.
