Willow Park has spacious properties and golf courses close to DFW
With towering willow trees that hang over the landscape, Willow Park has all the qualities of a larger city in the rural flatlands of North Texas. With spacious residential lots and master-planned subdivisions, Willow Park offers a wide-ranging mix of housing options, within a 20-minute drive of Fort Worth. "Willow Park has the best of both worlds. It is just far away enough from the city to feel like you're out in the country," says Lori Beal, broker at League Real Estate, who has lived in the area for over 25 years. "It is in the highly sought-after Aledo School District and is very convenient to Fort Worth. It's a great place to live and raise a family. People like to downsize here because it is quieter than the big city."
Ranch-style homes on spacious flatland properties
Oak and willow tree groves shade level fields and trimmed lawns in front of single-level homes. The average home size is about 2,400 square feet, compared to the national average of around 1,900. The area's architecture includes New Traditional and sprawling ranch-style homes ranging from $260,000 to $970,000. Willow Park offers several-acre lots and homes from the 1970s and newly built subdivisions with 2010s construction. Willow Park North is a master-planned community completed in 2024. "Willow Park North is a big commercial development, which has brought in shopping, dining and a medical district," Beal says. "Willow Park has really developed in the last 10 years. Before that, it was just a spot on the map with a couple gas stations."
A-rated schools with health care and extracurricular options
The Aledo Independent School District serves nearly 8,000 students across seven elementary, two middle and a high school. Elementary School has the Bearcat Care program, which provides an on-campus clinic with medical resources for students and staff. Aledo Middle has extracurricular activities, such as a robotics club, a student council and national honor societies. McCall Elementary and Aledo Middle both earn A grades from Niche. Aledo High School receives an A-minus, with extracurricular activities, like the anglers' club and the cornhole club. It also has an impressive football legacy, with over a dozen state championships. "We have won more state titles for football than any other school in the state," Beal says. "It's Texas, so we draw a lot of athletes because of that reputation, and we have a strong fine arts program as well."
Multiple golf courses and a floating boardwalk on Lake Weatherford
There are multiple green spaces and natural parks within a short drive. "Its claim to fame is in its community parks. They invest a lot of money into parks and trail systems. Newer subdivisions are built with that access to parks and trails," Beal says. Lake Weatherford is another community feature, known for having the longest floating boardwalk trail in Texas, stretching nearly a mile through lake marshes and woodlands. It also includes a disc golf course and the Quanah Hill Trail, a 7-mile mountain biking path that climbs in elevation and offers lake views. The Squaw Creek Golf Course and the Oeste Ranch Golf Course are both open to the public in Willow Park.
Barbecue restaurants and groceries within minutes of Willow Park
Several eateries and shopping centers are nearby. Brookshire's is the nearest supermarket, while H-E-B and Walmart Supercenter are about 4 miles west. One of the most popular barbecue restaurants in Willow Park is Drake's Yoke, which serves southern favorites like brisket, seafood and Tex-Mex dishes in an oil rig-themed restaurant with wooden décor. The Parker County Brewing Company serves pizza and craft beer on an outdoor brick patio.
Heat waves and high winds
Like many parts of Texas, Parker County experiences extreme summer heat waves, with temperatures regularly in the mid-90s and frequently hitting triple-digits. Willow Park is in Tornado Alley, which is prone to tornado activity due to high winds from the Gulf coast, which can also cause grass fires to spread.
Interstate 20 connects Willow Park to Fort Worth and Dallas
U.S. Interstate 20 goes through the south end of Willow Park and is one of the most extensive expressways in the state. Weatherford is about 10 miles west, and Fort Worth is around 22 miles east. Dallas is within an hour's drive. The nearest emergency room is the Texas Health Medical Center in Willow Park. Approximately 45 miles east, the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is one of the largest in the United States, with passenger flights to worldwide destinations.
