Tee time 30 minutes from Chicago

With access to expansive nature and convenient amenities, Darien is a nice place to live. In fact, that’s the city’s official slogan. A half-hour drive from Chicago, Darien provides spacious housing, big-box retail and golf to commuters looking to escape the city after the workday. "Darien is a community built around a golf course,” says Becky Marquardt, a local real estate broker. “The area is more affordable compared to surrounding suburbs, and residents enjoy an abundance of green.”

All three schools receive an A-minus from Niche. For high school, students can attend Downers Grove South High School, simply known as “South” in the community. Easy access to Interstate 55

Because many Darien residents commute to Chicago for work, the easy drive is a major draw of the neighborhood. “Most of it is proximity to the city and access to the highway,” says real estate agent Deneen Ruffolo with Realty Executives Midwest, a Darien resident of several decades. Drivers can hop on Interstate 55 for a 30-minute drive to the city center, whether it’s for their daily commute or for a weekend outing in the Windy City.

35 yerars of Darien Fest

The Darien community comes together several times a year for events like Darien Fest, which the neighborhood has celebrated for 35 years. Darien Fest includes free admission to a weekend of food, beer, bands and business networking opportunities. Car enthusiasts can come out to the Q Bar’s parking lot for the Cruisin’ on Cass car show during the summer, and when the weather cools down, the city puts on an Oktoberfest celebration.

It's quiet and pretty safe. At the same time the commerce is slim and there no real sense of community. Property values have gone down in certain areas.

Safe community and area to live in. Feel safe at night. Low crime rates, and the crimes that happen are generally low risk for others. It is an expensive area, but the schools are excellent, and it has a great location. It is close to many important highways. Also, it is far enough from Chicago but still close enough. I think it is a lovely suburb, but it is no Hinsdale.
