Homes on spacious lots in the Shenandoah Valley
Houses line long, straight roads crisscrossing the gently rolling landscape of the Shenandoah Valley. Ranches, Colonial Revivals and split-level homes sit on open lots, often measuring an acre or more. Newly built Craftsman-inspired homes hit the market occasionally. Prices start around $250,000, but houses on 5-plus acres usually sell between $490,000 and $750,000.The CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.Recreation in the heart of the community at Clearbrook Park
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit Clearbrook Park, where gravel paths and a paved road connect the pickleball courts, volleyball pits, playground and small lake. The park is one of the most popular in the area, and it has been for decades, says Brian Doman, a Realtor at Preslee Real Estate and a Strasburg native. “Clearbrook Park is a huge area for people to gather around. When I was younger, I used to play ball games up there.” The park opens its swimming pool from May to early September, and county residents get discounted season passes. To the south, Frederick County National Little League plays baseball and softball games at Stonewall Park, home to several fields. A large limestone quarry sprawling between Clearbrook Park and Stonewall Park employs about 100 people. Mining operations and the comings and goings of trucks sometimes create noise. Only a few homes are in the immediate area of the quarry.Events from a winter wonderland to a summertime fair
After Thanksgiving, people string up and set up hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights at Clearbrook Park to create Walking in a Winter Wonderland. A half-mile path takes visitors through the lights, an attraction that draw tens of thousands of people from Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland every year between November and New Year’s Day. Clear Brook is also next to the fairgrounds that welcome the Frederick County Fair every year in late July. The multiday event features monster trucks, livestock shows, pageants and a rodeo.Free tutoring services at Frederick County Public Schools
Stonewall Elementary School in Clear Brook teaches kindergarten through fifth grade, while Frederick County Middle School is about 7 miles west of the community. Niche gives both schools C-plus grades. Teens can go to B-rated James Wood High School, just south of Clear Brook. The school district provides every student free online tutoring resources, including essay reviews, practice tests and learning plans.Shopping at farm stands in Clear Brook, eating out in downtown Winchester
Clear Brook doesn’t have grocery stores, but locals can pick up fresh fruits and vegetables from some of the community’s farms. For example, Shenandoah Seasonal sells tomatoes, lettuce, kale and other produce from a roadside stand next to its 5-acre farm. DG Market carries some groceries, and Paladin Woolen Mill down the street is one of Clear Brook’s few restaurants. To the south, Winchester is home to the Apple Blossom Mall and shopping centers full of big-box stores such as Target and Lowe’s Home Improvement. A walking mall extends through the historic town center, where pedestrian-friendly brick storefronts house boutique shops, restaurants and breweries.I-81 and Route 11 connect to the rest of western Virginia
The Clear Brook area lacks public transit, but Interstate 81 and U.S. Route 11 run through it. Doman says an advantage of Clear Brook’s location is that it’s a quick drive north to Martinsburg or south to Winchester. It’s less than 10 miles to ValleyHealth Winchester Medical Center, and about 50 miles to Washington Dulles International Airport.Longtime churches include Brucetown United Methodist
Multiple churches are active across the community, with a few tracing their presence in Clear Brook back more than 150 years. Hopewell Centre of Friends, part of the Christian denomination often called Quakers, gathers in a meeting house built in 1872. In 1874, Brucetown United Methodist Church members laid the cornerstone of the church that the congregation still worships in today.
