A quiet and close community in Southeastern Wisconsin
Surrounded on three sides by Lake Michigan, the Village of Wind Point is a charming residential community in Racine County that’s as peaceful as it is beautiful. A stunning lighthouse is the main landmark of Wind Point, providing a sense of history and exploration to the area. With a population of only 1,700 people, it’s easy to know your neighbor. “It’s a small village, so everyone knows one another and watches after each other. I wasn’t sure I would like that when I was looking to move here, but then I got here, and I love it,” says Rosa Stong, co-owner of Becker Stong Real Estate Group. Residents can enjoy the bountiful job opportunities of Racine County’s industrial hub, then come home to a welcoming community.

Points of Interest
Wind Point’s cultural identity is intertwined with the many historic sites located along its shores. The Wind Point Lighthouse is a huge landmark for the village and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Despite being built in 1880, the village didn’t get responsibility for its grounds until 1997 — now, the lighthouse is open for tours and is used as an official meeting place for community events. Wind Point residents can even rent out the park and beach area right next to it. “When my son got married, we rented a huge tent and held the reception there. It was beautiful; you could hear the water lapping on the shore,” says Faye Becker, a lifelong resident of Wind Point and the other owner of Becker Stong Real Estate Group. Another unique point of interest is the Wingspread, the 1939 mansion of Frank Lloyd Wright. Residents and visitors alike can tour the unique building. In addition to the history, Wind Point’s community is also enriched through the Racine Theater Guild. Located in Wind Point, the community theater provides live entertainment through rotating plays, musicals, comedy performances, a Jazz series and a concert series. Both adults and children can take classes or participate in workshops with the guild.

Lakefront residential properties
Since Wind Point has a primarily residential landscape, the area is filled with suburban neighborhoods and cul-de-sac communities. For the most part, the housing market consists of single-family homes built in the 1950s and lakefront properties. “Occasionally, someone will buy an older home and tear it down to build something new, but most of the existing homes are all very nice. Even the cute little bungalows are well taken care of,” Becker says. With water to the east, there’s little room for expansion and new developments, which is why most people stick with the current inventory. Stong explains, “I’m on the planning committee, and most of the work we do is about improving the homes and the spaces we already have.” According to the Racine County Economic Development Corporation, the median sales price for homes in Wind Point in 2020 was $289,700. This has since increased by more than 30% over the past 4 years, with the median listing price of a home in 2025 being around $400,000. There are also a handful of duplexes and townhouses toward the northern tip of the village for those who want something smaller.

Racine County’s nearby schools
Wind Point is one of many villages served by the Racine Unified School District. As the fifth-largest school district in Wisconsin, Racine enrolls roughly 16,500 students across 11 elementary schools, four kindergarten-through-eighth-grade schools, four middle and six high schools. Horlick High School is where Wind Point teens are zoned. As the county’s oldest high school, Horlick maintains a C-plus Niche grade and has three Academies — one for culinary arts, one for education and then health sciences and aviation. The Racine school district, in general, is nationally recognized for its career and technical education programs. Additionally, there is one private school in the area called The Prairie School. “Many of the children in Wind Point go to The Prairie School. Truthfully, it’s one of the draws to the area,” Becker says.

An active community with natural views
Located directly along the Lake Michigan shoreline, Wind Point is full of beautiful waterfront views. Many residents own boats and other craft for fishing and water recreation. On land, the Wind Point Lighthouse has a Memorial Brick Garden that residents can visit. Take a seat on a bench facing the water and enjoy the calm atmosphere. The brick walkways commemorate the keepers of the lighthouse, along with many other community members. In Wind Point, trail users can visit the Wingspread and take a tour of its grounds. In general, the Wind Point community is very active and has a lot of trails and pathways. “People like to ride their bikes and walk their dogs. We don’t have any sidewalks, but it doesn’t matter,” Stong says. Lastly, Shoop Park Golf Course is nationally known for its panoramic views of the area giving an ambiance to its course. Golf enthusiasts can practice their game side-by-side with seasoned professionals.

Nearby shops and restaurants in Racine
Wind Point is primarily comprised of suburban neighborhoods. As a result, residents have to travel for all their shopping and dining out needs. However, “everything we could want is just right outside the village limits,” Becker explains. The closest area for both retail and restaurants is along Three Mile Road. There’s a strip mall that features a Piggly Wiggly and two local restaurants, Main Moon Chinese and Pico’s Tacos and Cerveza. Additionally, Douglas Avenue’s stretch between Three Mile and Four Mile Road has several locally owned eateries, including Aries Café, O & H Danish Bakery and four bar and grill locations. The Greentree Centre shopping mall has several retailers and fast-food options. For anything else, residents can travel 4.8 miles to Downtown Racine for its Seventh Street shopping and dining scene.

Traveling around Wind Point
Despite its lack of sidewalks, Wind Point is extremely walkable. According to Stong and Becker, there are always people out on leisurely strolls. However, when it comes to commuting, most Wind Point residents prefer using a personal vehicle. The main roads that people travel along are Three Mile Road and Four Mile Road. Exits onto U.S. Route 32, also known as Douglas Avenue, are two miles away from the village center. All three of these larger roadways have fixed bus stops along them from local transit services. Those who need to catch a commercial flight can head about 5 miles west to Batten International Airport on the outskirts of Racine.
Significantly low crime
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, six property crimes were reported in 2023 and no violent crimes were reported. “Some people will have to get a speeding ticket every now and then, but that’s about the only crime you’ll see around here. There’s petty crime, but not much,” Becker says. The Wind Point Police Department regularly shares crime prevention and safety tips in the village’s monthly newsletter.
