Located 17 miles east of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Wolf Township spans nearly 20 miles, encircling Hughesville and bordering Picture Rocks Township on the west. Rolling hills on the outskirts of the Allegheny Mountains and quiet roads along acres of farmland characterize much of Wolf’s landscape, and a handful of subdivisions are the only major developments found here. “There’s quite a bit of farming out there,” says Bill Dorman, resident of the neighboring Picture Rocks Borough for 85 years. “It’s very rural.”

Experiencing the seasons at Glacier Pools Preserve
Locals can take a walk through Glacier Pools Preserve. The preserve’s diverse terrain includes wooded trails, wildflower meadows overlooking the rolling hills, and seasonal vernal pools that attract wildlife such as salamanders and frogs. Visitors can experience the untouched white snow and misty landscape in the winter, a golden orange view of the hills in the fall, and the green forest with blooming flowers in the spring and summer. Dorman says that hunting and four-wheeling are also popular activities, both on private land and at public spaces like Highland Lake, about 10 miles north in Shrewsbury Township. East Lycoming Little League meets at the fields in Hughesville, and Bodine Park has playground equipment.

Mostly farms and undeveloped land, with some subdivisions
Country roads meander through Wolf’s hilly landscape, with the occasional farmhouse sitting on several acres. “Wolf has some sewage and city water, but if you go out, you’d have to have a private well,” Dorman says. There are, however, some housing developments built throughout the second half of the 20th century branching off Route U.S. 220 and on the outskirts of Hughesville. Manufactured homes and ranches off PA-405 are valued between $90,000 and $160,000. Contemporary homes, such as those on Slow Hand Drive and Chel Drive, cost between $300,000 and $500,000. These homes, built between 2000 and today, feature single- and two-story layouts that have details like front porches with columns, dormer windows, decorative brick exteriors and gabled roofs. Muncy Creek winds through Wolf, meaning some properties are in a flood zone.

Nearby Hughesville hosts the Lycoming County Fair for 10 days each year in July. “It draws people from all around the area,” Darmon says. “They have programs on the grandstand, horse racing and demolition derbies.” The fair also has amusement park rides and local vendors to explore. Exhibitors show off livestock like horses, goats and cattle, and winners continue to Bloomsburg Fair, the largest fair in the state, in September. Locals can also drive to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. The youth baseball tournament, which spans a week and a half each year in August, attracts hundreds of thousands of people annually.
