Easy access to Portland and historic charm in Wood Village
Wood Village is a small, Multnomah County city on the eastern outskirts of Portland, with spacious nearby green spaces and easy access to Interstate 84. “Wood Village is a charming little community,” says Nicole Richards, a local Realtor with eXp Realty. “There are a lot of quaint, 1940s homes that add a historic charm to the area’s streets. You’re also really close to the interstate, allowing for easy access to Portland and the Columbia River Gorge area.”
Cozy residential streets lined with mature evergreens
The community’s winding residential streets feature modest ranch-style homes, manufactured homes and modern Craftsman builds. Most homes were built between the 1940s and 1990s and sit close together on small lots with fenced-in back yards, with mature evergreens and dense greenery providing a degree of privacy between neighbors. Manufactured homes range from $60,000 to $150,000, while single-family builds can go for $350,000 to $710,000. Townhouses and condos range from $250,000 to $380,000.
Wooded trails, athletic facilities and a par 3 golf course
On the east side of town, next to the Wood Village Civic Center, Donald L Robertson City Park has a popular playground, athletic facilities, wooded walking trails and a nine-hole disc golf course. Bordering the park, McMenamins Edgefield Golf Course has a total of 29 holes, with an on-site bar serving draft beers and locally distilled whiskey. “McMenamins is a really awesome space,” says Richards. “It has a hotel, event spaces and around 13 restaurants and bars on site. The par 3 golf course is a big draw.” Nearby, the 70-acre Salish Ponds Wetland Park has winding walking trails and pond-side fishing platforms where anglers can reel in trout. The nature park is a habitat for a wide range of birds and waterfowl, from great blue herons to bald eagles.
Career and technical education at Reynolds High School
Local students may attend Salish Ponds Elementary School or Woodland Elementary School, which both earn C-minus grades from Niche. Reynolds Middle School also receives a C-minus. The C-rated Reynolds High School has a variety of extracurricular offerings, including clubs centered around theater, anime, art and table tennis. The high school also has career and technical education courses ranging from early childhood education to metals manufacturing. Reynolds High Partners with Mt. Hood Community College and Western Oregon University for its dual enrollment offerings.
Local eateries and shopping in the Wood Village Town Center
The north side of Wood Village is largely commercial, with a car dealership, a Camping World and a handful of manufacturing companies. On Northeast Halsey Street, Tany’s Cafe Con Pan serves coffee, breakfast plates and a wide variety of cakes and Mexican baked goods. Tapatio serves classic Mexican fare from barbacoa tacos to Chicken Taquitos. The Wood Village Town Center is conveniently located within a five-minute drive of most of the city’s homes and has a pet store, Kohl’s and a selection of chain eateries. For groceries, shoppers can swing by Fred Meyer or Walmart.
City Nite Out and holiday festivities
Every July, locals gather at the Wood Village Baptist Church for City Nite Out, with kids' games, a DJ and dozens of vendors. On the last Saturday of October, Pumpkin Fest is held at Donald L Robertson City Park and hosts a petting zoo, trunk-or-treat and a pet costume contest.
Take I-84 or local transit to downtown Portland
I-84 runs through the north end of Wood Village, allowing for a direct route to downtown Portland, around 15 miles west. Portland International Airport is around 12 miles away. The local bus routes are operated by TriMet, with nearby stops along Northeast Halsey Street.
