Well-established, upscale neighborhood near the mountains
Woodmoor appeals to those searching for upscale homes in a higher-end community with rolling hills and nature in their backyards. An eclectic mix of custom-built homes, well-manicured lawns, and highly rated schools draws people looking to lay down roots. "It is a great place to live for families," Aimee Fletcher, with Fletcher Team & Associates, says. The County Club at Woodmoor, where most residents are members, serves as a primary option for recreation when they decide to leave the house. Woodmoor sits northeast of downtown Monument, just across Interstate 25, in the foreground of Bald and True Mountains. Woodmoor receives a 2 out of 10 on the Crime Cap Index, lower than the U.S. national average of 4.
Custom-built homes amongst the trees
Most Woodmoor homes sit on large lots with plenty of space between neighbors, with most being one-third of an acre or more. Trees and rolling hills fill most of the space between houses; Woodmoor residents can even expect to see deer in their backyards. Most roads don't have sidewalks and don't accommodate street parking very well; however, most homes include a driveway and a garage. New construction homes near Jackson Creek Parkway cost between $390,000 and $500,00. Prices range from around $600,000 for a ranch-style or duplex home to more than a million for a contemporary split-level. "There are a lot of custom-built homes; nobody's house looks the same," Fletcher says. Townhouses with a couple of bedrooms range from $364,000 to $400,000.
Skiing and golfing at the Country Club at Woodmoor
Pickleball and tennis players regularly visit the Country Club at Woodmoor utilizing the indoor courts. Golf enthusiasts visit the tree-lined, 18-hole championship golf course, which course doubles as a ski trail in the winter when it snows. Speaking of snow, Woodmoor residents rush to Toboggan Hill as soon as the snow sticks for sledding down the mostly smooth hill. "All the kiddos and even adults play on the hill, and they love it," Fletcher says. Fox Run Regional Park spans over 400 acres amongst a towering forest of trees with postcard-quality mountain views. Pets can explore the off-leash dog park or join their humans on an adventure along the hiking and biking trails. A waterside gazebo hosts several events, such as birthday parties and weddings, with a forest backdrop near a spraying fountain in the pond.
Highly rated schools close to each other
Woodmoor schools have a lot in common; all three are named Lewis-Palmer, and all three earn an A-minus from Niche. "They are absolutely phenomenal schools," Fletcher says. "Lewis-Palmer High is known for great academics." In addition to academics, Lewis-Palmer High offers clubs like astronomy, lumberjack and United Countries clubs. Parents who prefer to carpool have an easy route to all three schools; the elementary and middle schools sit one and a half miles from each other on the opposite side of Woodmoor Lake, with the high school two miles south.
Drive the car or park-and-ride to downtown
Woodmoor's upscale homes and spacious layouts come at a cost to convenience. Residents need a car to get around, with limited public transportation options and walkability. Downtown Colorado Springs is about 21 miles south on Interstate 25, while the Colorado Springs Airport is about 32 miles southeast. There is a park-and-ride stop for bus service and airport shuttles near the Interstate 25 and Woomoor Drive intersection. St. Francis Hospital – Interquest is about 10 miles south down Interstate 25 and is the closest hospital besides the Colorado Neuropsychological.
Classic cars and all-day breakfast at Rosie's Diner
Rosie's Diner stands out as a prominent pit stop near West Highway 105 with its polished chrome, neon building, classic cars out front, and a coin-operated jukebox inside. The 1950s-themed diner serves breakfast all day, along with a cup of coffee and milkshakes. Pikes Peak Brewing Company's patio seating between the two silos filled with hops fills up on the weekend, offering local craft beers and weekly live music. Safeway and Walgreens provide essentials and groceries less than two miles away across Interstate 25. Big-name retailers like Walmart and Kohl's are a few miles south on I-25, with King Soopers and Natural Grocers a few miles further south.
