Woodside Hills
Suburban Neighborhood in Woodside, California
San Mateo County 94062
Nearly a century of custom-built luxury homes
The Town of Woodside didn’t exist when Woodside Hills was developed on 300 acres in 1938. The sometimes-lavish houses were built with money from the local lumber mills, and the community got its name from the heavily wooded coastal ridgelines it sat upon. Those ridgelines make the neighborhood’s sloping roads wind around houses hidden in foliage. Coupled with the community’s tree-filled traffic islands, the already private area has a secluded feel. The Woodside Hills Homes Association hosts a “Meet Your Neighbor” night to encourage people to mingle. This community togetherness is probably why the neighborhood gets a CAP Index score of 2 out of 10, which is below the national average of 4. Lots are often an acre or more, and many have meticulously landscaped front- and backyards. Homes sell for a median price of $5 million after 40 days. However, architectural styles are quite diverse here and tend to be broken into price categories by age and acreage. Historic estates from the 1920s through the 1940s range from $4.5 million to nearly $20 million. Midcentury luxury homes start around $3 million and continue to $6 million. More contemporary houses range from $6.5 million to $15 million.Sports, STEAM and career pathways
Children in Woodside Hills can start at B-rated Henry Ford Elementary School, which offers after-school sports programs through a partnership with Redwood City Parks. At B-rated Kennedy Middle School, students can take hands-on introductory and advanced STEAM courses. A-rated Woodside High School has ten career and technical education pathways, including culinary arts, engineering and web design.Public parks and private country clubs
The Menlo Country Club and its golf course occupy the neighborhood’s eastern corner. It’s for members only, but there are still recreational opportunities all around the neighborhood. Barkley Fields and Park is Woodside’s only official green space. It hosts Little League and youth soccer on its large open field, and children enjoy the shaded playground. Stulsaft Park rests on the edge of Woodside Hills and is maintained by Redwood City. It covers 42 acres, has a trail network for walking, biking and horseback riding, and allows off-leash dogs on some paths. There are also playgrounds and a children’s splash pad with large crayons as the water features.Minutes from groceries, big box retailers and locally owned restaurants
Woodside Plaza sits just above the neighborhood, with a Lucky grocery store and several restaurants. Redwood Grill serves California-style dishes made with local produce and meats. The casual eatery has small plates, pastries and weekend brunch. Just down the street, Akami Sushi has an extensive menu that includes sashimi, nigiri, and hand rolls. Villa Lucia’s has been serving Italian classics since 1982. It has regular live music and is a popular spot to watch sports, no matter the season. Woodside Central is a large shopping mall with retailers like Target, Marshalls and Bath & Body Works.Traveling between San Francisco and San Jose
There are no sidewalks between the homes in Woodside Hills, but people are often seen walking their dogs or just taking a stroll along the wooded, winding streets. Public transportation is limited, but a few bus stops dot Farm Hill Boulevard and Fernside Street. Interstate 280 and California State Highway 84 run just outside the community, taking people to San Francisco, San Jose and Silicon Valley. Those with homes near the freeway could hear traffic noise during busy travel times. Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital is three miles away, while Stanford Hospital is 5 miles from the neighborhood. The San Francisco International Airport is 25 miles away, just off the 101 Freeway.
