Now an established St. Louis County suburb, Woodson Terrace was once a small Missouri farming town. The population soared after being incorporated as a city in the 1950s, especially as the airport along the community’s northern border expanded to commercial use in the early 1970s. “It’s very established, so you can get bigger lots, bigger trees and wider roads,” says Karen Poole of Coldwell Banker, an agent with several sales in the area and an expert in northwestern St. Louis County. “It’s about 20 minutes to downtown, and you’re right near the 70 and 170, so wherever you want to go, you get there quick.” With home prices about $100,000 below the county median, Woodson Terrace offers a lower-cost alternative to some of the other neighborhoods in the St. Louis County metropolitan area, even with its proximity to public transportation and the largest airport in the region.

Ranch-style homes south of Natural Bridge Road
With brick sidewalks along its main thoroughfare and mature black walnut trees shading its residential streets, Woodson Terrace maintains a suburban feel despite its designation as a city. As with many northwestern St. Louis County communities, properties retain the same ownership for decades, so homes tend to sell quickly when they do hit the market. Multiple offers typically roll in right after an open house. “The housing values are really good; most are well under $200,000, and there are pockets over there where homes don’t have basements, which holds the price down,” Poole says. Ranch-style homes from the late 1940s and early 1950s with compact, grassy lots make up most of the housing stock, and prices typically range from $90,000 to $180,000 for two- and three-bedroom options.

Access to Ritenour School District and nearby private options
Students can attend the Ritenour district, starting with two schools receiving a C-minus grade from Niche: Kratz Elementary and Hoech Middle. From here, they can transition to Ritenour High, which gets a C-plus grade and includes a Ready to Work program that invites students to gain real-world skills through on-the-job training. Private options, like New Life Academy, are available in nearby Bridgeton, about 4 miles away.

With ramps to Interstate 70 along its northern edge, Woodson Terrace is a quick 15-mile drive from downtown St. Louis. Because the St. Louis Lambert International Airport is right next door, 11 airlines and a MetroLink station are within a mile walk or bike ride.

John L. Brown Park is one of the main parks in Woodson Terrace, and its carefully landscaped grounds and included community center offer entertainment and programming throughout the year. The municipal pool, situated just beside the community center, is limited to Woodson Terrace and St. John residents, and it is a popular destination during the peak heat of summer. After dark, The Rize Event Center is one of the few nightlife destinations nearby, and its calendar is limited to two events: wine nights on Wednesday and karaoke on Monday.

Dining at Golden Pancake or shopping in nearby communities
Because the airport borders the community to the north, several hotels are along Natural Bridge Road. With the presence of hospitality comes several restaurants, including the Golden Pancake, an all-day breakfast joint, and Yesterday’s Bar and Grill, a spot with classic American eats that gained new ownership in 2024. The nearest grocer, Schnucks, is technically in another neighborhood a mile away, but it still feels like part of Woodson Terrace. “This town is made up of 200 small cities. You can’t really tell in that area when you go from one city to the next. There’s a city line, but for the most part, you have to look at a sign to see you’re crossing,” Poole says. For more extensive shopping options, St. Louis Antique Mall is less than a mile away, and the national retailers of Saint Louis Galleria Mall are about 10 miles away.
