Woodstock Town Grafton is one of New Hampshire's staple ski towns

Woodstock is a ski town in Grafton County's Pemigewasset River Valley surrounded by the White Mountains. "It's the quintessential northern New Hampshire ski town," says agent Brian Wilson with Re/Max in the Mountains, a Woodstock-area resident for over 20 years. "Skiers love having second homes up here." Winter condos and spacious mountain homes surround the village's Main Street, lined with breweries, cafes and ski lodges. With some of the best alpine skiing on the East Coast, the town booms in the winter. But the activity doesn't stop once the snow has melted. "The White Mountains have amazing hiking and mountain biking," Wilson says. "This is a four-season area."

Winter condos and luxurious mountain homes near Main Street

Main Street and most of the town's homes are in North Woodstock, neighboring Lincoln. With many seasonal visitors, timeshare units are plentiful, costing between $5,000 and $30,000. Condo communities and townhouses can also be found, with small units and larger townhouses ranging from $200,000 to $650,000. Single-family options throughout town include New England country homes, wooded cabins and mountain cottages that can cost just under $300,000 to $550,000. Newer luxury homes on the river or with vast mountain views can reach $1.2 million to $1.5 million.

New Hampshire's White Mountains provide top-notch skiing

The White Mountains' 4,000-foot peaks offer year-round recreation, but it's at its fullest during ski season. Loon Mountain Resort is the closest ski area, just east of Lincoln, a short drive from most homes. It has 73 trails within over 400 acres of alpine skiing area. Loon Mountain also has New Hampshire's largest mountain biking park and provides a bike lift to get to the top of the downhill trails. Skiers can also drive to Waterville Valley Ski Resort, just over 20 miles east. Waterville Valley also has summer trails, but hikers and mountain bikers can utilize public trails around Woodstock. They unveil waterfalls and rocky gorges hidden in the mountains, which lead to scenic viewpoints.

Walkable restaurants and breweries on Main Street

Main Street, located in North Woodstock, is the heart of activity. It's walkable from most homes and lodges on that end of town, and a short drive from the rest of Woodstock. "It's a nice walkable little area with brew pubs and shops," Wilson says. Skiers can grab a latte at Woodstock Pie and Coffee Company before hitting the slopes. Then, after a day on the powder, they can relax with a craft beer at the Woodstock Inn Brewery. These are within a few steps of other staples like Pemi Public House. Fadden's General Store has small essentials on Main, but Price Chopper in Lincoln is the closest supermarket. Lincoln also has the nearest urgent care and doctor's offices, but the nearest medical center is Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, less than 20 miles south.

Lin-Wood Public School teaches kindergarten through eighth grade

Lincoln-Woodstock Cooperative School District, rated a B by Niche, serves the few students who reside here year-round — few, meaning a 7-to-1 student-teacher ratio. From kindergarten through twelfth grade, they go to Lin-Wood Public School, the lone school building, located in Lincoln. Niche gives the school's elementary and middle levels a B-plus grade, while it gets a B-minus for high school. Students here grow up in one of the East Coast's best skiing regions, so naturally, the school has a ski team that competes against other schools in the area.

Interstate 93 leads south to Manchester and Boston

Interstate 93 runs right through town, taking drivers south to New Hampshire's larger cities. Heading southwest off I-93 leads to Lebanon, the nearest larger city, under 60 miles away. Concord, New Hampshire's state capital, is also less than 60 miles south. Manchester, New Hampshire's largest city, is just south of Concord, 75 miles down I-93. Residents traveling to and from Woodstock by air usually travel through Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Boston is the closest major city, almost 130 miles south.
