A historic Massachusetts neighborhood
The American Industrial Revolution is deeply rooted in Worcester’s Indian Lake East, a north side neighborhood bordering one of the city’s four major bodies of water. The nearby lake that the area gets its name from was the peak source of water for the Blackstone River, a waterway responsible for powering some of New England’s largest production mills in the early 20th century. Those industrial roots are still visible through the styles of homes found throughout the neighborhood, and its wide selection of restaurants, shops and local staples are among its most notable attributes. "It's a really nice area," says Nelson Zide, a Realtor with Era Key Realty Services in Worcester. "People are really enjoying the new restaurants and stores, plus Polar Park with the WooSox is nearby and the DCU Center has minor league hockey. Worcester is a large city, yet the Indian Lake area has a nice, small community feel at the same time."
Homes on the water
Homes throughout the Indian Lake East neighborhood of Massachusetts can vary in styles, but most of the architectural styles found there are colonials, ranch homes, Cape Cod-style houses and bungalows, with some residences within walking distance of its waterways. Most of the Indian Lake area is comprised of older communities with few newer developments, and the price range typically ranges from $350,000 to $425,000. Some homes fall closer to $300,000 or sell for higher than $500,000. Some homes can even be found on Sears Island, which juts into Indian Lake and has homes just across the mainland, accessible via a small bridge.

Iconic lake views and plenty of parks
Look no further than Indian Lake itself for getting outdoors, as residents can trek along its banks or go boating, fishing or swimming in the warmer months. Shore Park lies on the northern end of the lake, featuring picnic areas along with the beach bordering the water, and Indian Lake Beach lies on the eastern side of the lake. It's not hard to find other parks in the vicinity, either. "Most of the local communities have a lot of different parks," Zide says. "There's lots of them all around the whole city. More playgrounds are going up and ballfields are being built. Someone could drive less than 15 minutes and find multiple parks in that area."
A huge selection of local food and shopping
Beyond the lake itself, the neighborhood includes an eclectic mix of restaurants – some of which are among the most popular in the city. Fatima’s Café serves a variety of East African cuisines, The Fix Burger Bar has some of the juiciest patties in town and Greater Good Imperial Brewing Co. crafts everything from hard seltzers to hazy New England-style India Pale Ales. Ralph’s Rock Diner, a music venue, bar and no-frills food establishment, is housed in a structure built in 1930 by the Worcester Lunch Car Company. Today, the venue hosts bimonthly Metal Thursdays, a staple since 2006, and its Dirty Gerund Poetry Show every Monday. It has hosted local bands and international musicians, as well as vintage auto and motorcycle shows.

Take me out to the baseball, or hockey, game
Though no major-league team in any of the four major North American sports resides in Worcester, two athletic venues are located less than 15 minutes south of Indian Lake East. Polar Park is the home of the Worcester Red Sox, nicknamed the WooSox, serving as the Triple-A affiliate for the Boston Red Sox. Less than 50 miles from its parent club's iconic Fenway Park, Polar Park is a prime location to see potential future stars of Major League Baseball take to the field. A few minutes further north is the DCU Center, has been in operation for more than 40 years and has hosted concerts, basketball tournaments, arena football and more; its most frequent showcase are the Worcester Railers, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Islanders.
Interstate190 and 290 run nearby providing easy access for residences and nearby shopping.
All roads lead to Indian Lake East
Two highways, Interstates 190 and 290, run through the neighborhood, making it a strong center of commerce. "A lot of people like the commuting accessibility," Zide, whose agency's offices are located right in Worcester, says. "Public transportation and trains take people all over the place, so getting around Worcester as a whole is easy. Having all the major throughways makes for a really nice commute, and residents are close to all the major routes that can get you anywhere in the state relatively quickly."
