Wyldwood offers growth in proximity to major employers
Wyldwood is a Central Texas community with homes and industrial spaces near commuter and business hubs. "Wyldwood is very, very small. There are churches and a few restaurants. It's between Cedar Creek and Bastrop, right off [State Highway] 71," says Kelley Harris, a Stanberry Realtors agent with over 30 years of experience. According to U.S. Census estimates, the population more than doubled between 2010 and 2023. Aside from comparatively lower housing prices, the area's growth is driven by large companies moving into nearby cities. "Tesla and H-E-B are big employers in the region. We also have the Boring Company. Hyatt Regency Loft Pines in Cedar Creek is another big one in the area," Harris says. Tesla's Gigafactory Texas is headquartered in Austin, while The Boring Company and SpaceX both operate facilities in Bastrop. The community is also the upcoming site of a film studio that doubles as a residential village, called Wyldwood Studios.
Many properties give space for horses and homesteading
Some Wyldwood residences stand on open lots, while others are concealed behind trees and shrubbery. Many properties have enough space for homesteading and raising horses. Several lots contain outbuildings, like workshops, storage sheds and stables. Harris says the area has several manufactured homes and single-family houses. She notes that prices usually sit below the metro average. Homes on less than 2 acres can cost between $200,000 and $425,000. Residences on more land typically range from about $450,000 to $650,000.
The area sits near Bastrop, Austin and major roadways
In and around the community are houses of worship like Wyldwood Baptist Church and New Covenant Church. The Central Texas Rural Transit System serves the region with on-demand rides. About 5 miles from the heart of the area is Tucker Hill Park & Ride, which provides direct routes to Austin. However, most locals travel by car. State Highways 71 and 21 are along the edge of the community, providing access to nearby cities. Ascension Seton Bastrop Hospital is about 10 miles away. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is roughly 15 miles from Wyldwood, while Downtown Austin is around 25 miles away.
Outdoor fun includes McKinney Roughs Nature Park and Lake Bastrop
McKinney Roughs Nature Park is a major outdoor haven within 5 miles of most Wyldwood homes. Miles of trails suitable for hikers, equestrians and bicyclists lead through fields and pine forests. The park holds events throughout the year, including archery workshops and community stargazing. "For the last few years, we've had a Halloween celebration at the McKinney Roughs Nature Park. We also went to a Harry Potter experience," Harris says. Lake Bastrop, about 15 miles away, offers fishing spots, boat launches and nearby hiking trails. The small community has family-friendly attractions like the Capital of Texas Zoo and the Dinosaur Park.
A few local shops and eateries line the highway corridors
As a primarily residential area, the community has only a few storefronts, with most along State Highway 21 and State Highway 71. The commercial routes include Dollar General, a recycling center and automotive shops. Some eateries serve Mexican fare, such as Mariscos Lozanos Café and El Jalisco's. Fitties BBQ is a local gem for its southern-style offerings, smoked meats and breakfast tacos. The establishment operates out of a trailer, where patrons place orders and eat outside on wooden picnic tables. There is a JD's Market nearby in Cedar Creek. A Walmart Supercenter and a H-E-B Plus! are about 10 miles away in Bastrop. Locals also head to the nearby city for more shopping and dining options.
Students attend Bastrop ISD schools
Young students leave the community to attend schools in the Bastrop Independent School District, which has a B-minus grade on Niche. Bluebonnet Elementary is situated less than one mile to the north of the area and holds a C grade. The local middle school was recently renamed Creekside Middle School in 2025. The school is off State Highway 21 and receives a C-minus. Teens stay inside Wyldwood to attend the B-minus-rated Cedar Creek High.
Flooding and wildfire have impacted the region
The region has a moderate risk of flooding, especially during heavy rainfall and hurricanes. Hurricane Harvey impacted several homes in 2017. The county has also experienced wildfires that have resulted in evacuations and damaged properties.
