Scarce public transportation makes Spring Ridge car-dependent, though shopping and recreation may be within walking distance for some. “Those who commute take Penn Avenue, where most of the businesses are, and Reading Boulevard, where a lot of the higher-end homes are,” says Buffa. These roads lead to U.S. Route 222, which takes residents into Reading, and U.S. Route 422, which gets commuters 50 miles east to Philadelphia. Reading Regional Airport is 2 miles north. Reading Hospital is 2 miles south.
