Yadkinville is a scenic small town west of Winston-Salem
About 25 miles west of Winston-Salem, Yadkinville is a quaint small town for commuters looking for a slower pace of life and a lower cost of living. “The cost of living and quality of life are excellent with room to grow and thrive,” says Meredith Detsch, Yadkinville’s planning director. “While the town is on the smaller scale, the amenities and events hosted are high quality and offer a little something to all ages and abilities. The slower pace of living, coupled with beautiful scenery and ample parks, makes it a great place to raise a family or retire in the area.”
Ranch-style and New Traditional homes
Yadkinville has mostly ranch-style homes, but new developments filled with New Traditional homes continue to get built in the area. “The town is growing with new homes being built and businesses expanding their footprints,” Ketsch says. Properties in the area tend to be large, with most being at least 1 acre and many being 5 or more. Buyers looking to build their dream home can typically find land for sale in Yadkinville. Sales prices in Yadkinville usually fall between $15,000 and $260,000 for land and $200,000 and $500,000 for single-family homes.
Learning in Yadkin County Schools
Students in Yadkinville can attend Yadkin County Schools, a district with an overall B grade from Niche. Yadkinville Elementary School gets a B-minus grade, and Forbush Middle School and Forbush High School get Bs. Forbush High School offers career and technical education courses in agriculture, health science, computer science and more.
Expanding Yadkinville’s parks system
Yadkinville Community Park is the town’s central outdoor space, equipped with a walking path, playground, picnic shelter and a stage. “The town is exploring expanding the parks systems and reinvesting in the downtown with support of the newly created Friends of Downtown organization, comprised of many local businesses and community partners,” Detsch says. The town currently has plans to build another park in downtown Yadkinville. Yadkinville is also home to Hinshaw Gardens, a small memorial park.
Local restaurants and Food Lion
Yadkinville has several restaurants and a Food Lion in town, so residents don’t have to go far to find a bite to eat. Little Richard’s Smokehouse BBQ is a North Carolina-based chain serving Southern fare in a cozy country interior. Yadkin Valley Seafood Restaurant is a longtime family-owned restaurant serving hand-breaded seafood in a no-frills dining room. Papa’s Pizza To Go is a popular spot to grab takeout. Yadkinville is also home to several fast-food chains, including McDonald’s, Bojangles and Hardee’s.
A monthly dance party on Main Street
To foster a sense of community, “the town hosts many events and co-sponsors several with the local library and nonprofit organizations,” Detsch says. “Our summer concert series, Friday After 5, turns Main Street into a dance party with lots of local bands and food trucks once a month.”
Medical centers, airports and other nearby resources
Yadkinville is a car-dependent community 26 miles west of Winston-Salem and 55 miles west of Greensboro. “The location of the town is wonderfully positioned to commuters wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle and live a high-quality life,” Detsch says. Yadkinville has two medical centers in town, Novant Health Yadkin Medical Associates and Yadkin County Medical Clinic. When traveling out of town, residents can fly out of Piedmont Triad International Airport, 48 miles east, or Charlotte Douglas International Airport, 77 miles south.
