A former factory town
Originally named Snyderstown, the borough of Yoe got its start on two farms, one owned by Jacob Snyder bought in 1815, the other owned by Henry Taylor. In 1871, the Snyders started a sawmill operation. Over the years, stores and a cigar factory popped up, and with them, homes to house the workers. By 1880, the community had a school, several homes, a church and a railroad station. When the people requested a post office, they were turned down as there was already a Snyderstown in Pennsylvania. That’s how Moses Snyder ended up renaming the community Yohe after his mother’s maiden name. In order to avoid offending his father’s second wife, Moses changed the spelling to Yoe and the name has persisted to this day. Today, Yoe Borough is much more residential than industrial, with the cigar factory moving to another York Township. Residents enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, friendly neighbors and outdoor activities like hiking, camping and fishing. Several local eateries are within reach, and many enjoy proximity to large East Coast cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Sidewalks line residential streets making strolls around the neighborhood easy. A close-knit community, Yoe promises friendly neighbors who are sure to greet each other along neighborhood walks. Home prices in the area range from $72,500 to $230,000.

Sechrist's franks have top honors
Sechrist Brothers opened their shop in 1874 and has been a fixture in Yoe ever since. For generations, the Sechrist family has been selling their award-winning meats. Sechrist’s franks, sausages and brats have won first-place honors in Pennsylvania competitions since they first started competing in 1985. Their regular skinless frank became the “Top Dog” in the nation in 1993 and continues to live up to its reputation. When looking for something more substantial, locals head to Parma Pizza & Grill for old-world Italian staples. Groceries are easily grabbed at the nearby Giant Supermarket.
