Lamartine Heights is near the waterfront, convenient to transit options
Lamartine Heights, 18 miles from New York City, stretches between the Glenwood and Yonkers train stations. The area is primarily residential, consisting mainly of apartment buildings. While residences along the Hudson Line into Manhattan are convenient, the population is split between commuters and those working at the waterfront. “There are people from here, and then you have a lot from the city because it’s more affordable,” says Akim Smyer, a real estate agent with Five Corners Properties who has been a real estate agent in the New York City and Yonkers areas since 1997. Housing prices and proximity to train stations are the main reasons residents settle in Lamartine. Still, the waterfront and nearby Northwest Yonkers area also provide trendy restaurants, picturesque green spaces and entertainment.

Commuters use the Glenwood or Yonkers train stations.
Whether commuters live at Lamartine's northern or southern end, they are no more than a mile from the Glenwood and Yonkers train stations. A commute to Penn Station from either stop takes around 45 minutes. The Hudson Line passes beside the neighborhood and may produce some noise. “There is a buffer of trees for sound, depending on where you live,” says Smyer. “When I was younger, I lived close to the C Train; it became background noise after a while. The train doesn’t run all night.” Those commuting on roadways use state Route 9A to reach the city in under an hour. LaGuardia Airport is18 miles away on Cross County Parkway. “You’re close to all the parkways. Whether you want to go north, south or east you’re in a good position,” says Smyer. Bee-Line bus stops line popular roadways and the St. John’s Riverside Hospital is 2 miles away.

Philipse Manor Hall dates to the 1680s
Beside the Glenwood station, Trevor Park & Playground is an open green space with a walking path and several sports fields for softball, tennis and basketball. A small playground is encircled by a ring of trees, providing shade on hot days. The park sits next to the Hudson River Museum, which features exhibits in science, art and history. The museum also features summer performances in the outdoor amphitheater beside it. At the opposite end of Lamartine, the Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site stands out beside the tall buildings surrounding it. Building the brick-faced colonial began in the 1680s and was the home of Frederick Philipse III, a loyalist to Britain during the American Revolution who later fled to England. The historic site is under continuous restoration, and the Friends of Philipse Manor Hall hosts events to support its restoration and educate the public on the American Revolution and early colonial times.
