Bristol-Kendall County
Subdivisions between fields of corn
Folks driving through Bristol Township see vast expanses on one side of the road and the backs of houses in a cul-de-sac on the other. The oldest homes in Bristol Township are ranch-style homes and split-levels. They’re joined by subdivisions of New Traditional homes, some built as late as 2024, and some still under construction but available for purchase. Most single-family homes sell for between $300,000 and $650,000. Townhouses with attached garages are also available in parts of the township, selling for $150,000 to $300,000. Even within these new residential enclaves, farmland is usually in view. “I can see corn out my window,” says Gina Johansen, Realtor with Keller Williams Infinity and Yorkville resident. “And all the newer production builders are working amid cornfields.”Blackberry Oaks greens and Raging Waves slides
Blackberry Creek winds past Steven G. Bridge Park, which includes plenty of parking for visitors ready to swing on the three baseball fields or play on the small playground. The park also includes basketball and volleyball courts. Some homeowners in master planned portions of the township pay homeowner’s association fees towards their pool, fitness room and clubhouse—like Bristol Bay, which also includes a circus-themed playground and a clubhouse and pool that are frequently packed in the summer. The pool isn't the only place to cool off. "We have the Fox River running right through downtown,” says Rosemarie Bakka, broker with EXP Realty and Yorkville resident of almost 20 years. “There’s a lot of kayaking and people float in their tubes.” Families can head to the Fox River shoreline at Bicentennial Riverfront Park to play on the playground or hit the water. Summer means twirling down the slides at Raging Waves Waterpark, the largest waterpark in Illinois. Nearby, the Blackberry Oaks Golf Course provides an 18-hole championship game that encompasses nearly 6,400 yards. The facility is host to the Chad Johansen Golf Academy, which attracts players from across the region. From Bristol Tap to downtown Yorkville
Players at Blackberry Oaks enjoy a full menu at Oaks Grille, the clubhouse restaurant. Other than this membership perk, restaurants are sparse in Bristol Township compared to its homes and farmland. Bristol Tap holds down the fort, with its unassuming exterior and dive-y interior creating the setting to watch the game with a burger and self-serve popcorn. The farther south folks travel on Illinois Route 47, they'll encounter more restaurants and shopping options on the approach to Yorkville’s center. Cars filter into large parking lots of big-box stores like Jewel-Osco and Menards at the intersection of Route 47 and Veteran’s Parkway, as well as medical offices and chain eateries like Panera Bread. Heading a mile west takes shoppers to Kendall Marketplace, an open-air shopping center with anchor stores like Kohl's, Target and Marshall's.The chain presence dwindles in Yorkville’s walkable downtown sector, where Bakka says many businesses are owned by community members. “Because you can float and kayak, there are also restaurants by the river,” Bakka says. “These are older buildings that have been recreated into businesses. There are also a lot of buildings like old silos there, so it has that farm feel to it.” One example of this reinvention is The Vault, a bank-turned-classy bar holding onto its interior quirks. “They’ve left the huge vault, and you can see it when you’re eating," Bakka says. Additional shopping can be found near downtown Oswego, a walkable village square about 5 miles east of the township.
Yorkville Fox pride throughout Bristol Township
Bristol Bay Elementary School and Autumn Creek Elementary School are this area’s most popular choices, each scoring a B-plus from Niche and serving prekindergarten through sixth grade. From there, kids funnel together to Yorkville Middle School for seventh and eighth grades before capping out at Yorkville High School, both of which score A-minuses. “All the schools are the ‘Foxes,’ from Pre-K through 12th grade, which adds a lot of pride and community,” says Johansen. Kids may also attend private, tuition-based options like Parkview Christian Academy, which splits its pre-K through 12th-grade classes between a Lower and Upper Campus. The academy scores a C-plus from Niche.Routes and freeways traversing Yorkville
Illinois Route 47 runs north to Interstate 88 and south to downtown Yorkville, while U.S. Route 30 and U.S. Route 34 run east to west through the township towards Oswego. Most Bristol residents live about 4 miles from downtown Yorkville and the Fox River. Though there is no Metra station in Yorkville, commuters can park during the day at the Aurora station for the 52-mile journey to downtown Chicago. The township is also about 55 miles to Chicago Midway International Airport and 49 miles to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. As for medical care, RUSH Copley Healthcare Center serves the Yorkville region with many healthcare services about 4 miles away, and the nearest full-service hospital is RUSH Copley Medical Center, 11 miles away in Aurora.
